Today's increasingly complex work environment has created a need for individuals capable of effectively managing human resources activities. If you're detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, consider putting your strengths to use in the workplace as a human resources manager. Human resources managers are responsible for attracting, motivating, and retaining the most qualified employees and matching them to the jobs for which they are best suited.

Northwestern College's Human Resources Management Associate in Applied Science Degree program provides training in skills related to human resources management. Graduates of our program are prepared to assist in and lead human resources functions in business, government, and non-profit organizations. Enroll in our program to learn how to effectively manage a variety of human resources issues, including employee training, labor relations, organizational communications, and staffing.

PROGRAM GOALS

The Human Resources Management program at Northwestern College is designed to address the evolving requirements of today's human resources departments. Upon completion of the program, you will be able to:

  • Define and understand human resources management principles

  • Understand behavioral science and general management theories

  • Apply knowledge of human resources management to identify and deal with employee issues

  • Examine, differentiate, and implement relative employment laws

  • Have a working knowledge of diversity in the workplace

HUMAN RESOURCES EXTERNSHIP

Through our externship program, students have the opportunity to participate in a supervised learning experience outside of the classroom. During externships, students deal with day-to-day human resources situations and perform services of value for a participating employer in order to receive academic credit. Although there is no remuneration for externships, the hands-on experience that you gain managing human resources activities is invaluable.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

With an associate degree in Human Resources Management from Northwestern College, you'll be well equipped to pursue an entry-level position in human resources or a bachelor's degree in a related field. Our graduates may find employment in the following settings:

  • Federal and local government agencies

  • Elementary and secondary schools

  • Hospitals

  • Corporate offices

  • Non-profit organizations
