We specifically wanted to know why they chose online education with Everest. We also wanted to know what they thought of our online degree programs.

Why Students Choose Our Online Education

Students told us there were many reasons why they chose to attend Everest online classes. Some reasons include:

Our noteworthy accreditation status

The reputation of our distinguished faculty

Our career-focused curriculum

Career Placement Services for graduates

Flexible Schedules

And even though these are all important factors for our students, they weren’t the main reason why they completed their degree with us.

They chose Everest online education for a reason that we completely overlooked.

It’s a reason that makes our online education stand out from other online degree programs - and it’s something we never really advertised.

The Top Reason Students Choose Everest

Students kept writing us over and over again about how much they appreciated our supportive staff and faculty.

You see, Everest is committed not only to academic excellence, but also making sure our students get the support they need. Our students aren’t numbers; we consider each student as part of our online family.

And, as part of our online family, we work hard to create an online environment that each student will feel comfortable in.

We support our students every step of the way - from getting their computer set up to helping them throughout their online degree program.

Our commitment to our students has drawn more and more students to our school. And our student enrollment continues to climb because of the recommendations of our students.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is currently developing the James Webb Space Telescope, a piece of equipment with over 400 technical requirements. The intended mission of the telescope is to circle the earth more than 1 million miles away and record facts about the expanding universe. Completing this surreal task requires the expertise of a project manager. This type of management goes far beyond conventional bachelor degree in management careers like retail management.

What is a Project Manager?

The position of project manager was recently profiled in the Occupational Outlook Quarterly from the Department of Labor. Bachelor degree in management graduates may serve as project managers for everything from planning an annual awards ceremony to designing a new company product. Management degree graduates who work as project managers have the responsibility of providing direction for an assigned project while balancing the time, money, and scope involved in the venture.

Although projects vary widely throughout the profession, the central process for project management involves setting goals, creating a plan, monitoring progress, and, lastly, wrapping up the final details required for completion of the project. During the course of the project, the project manager facilitates efficient work by maintaining good communication among team members and upper management. Some bachelor degree in management graduates act as project managers within the scope of a job description, while other business management degree graduates fashion an entire career out of project management.

Required Education to be a Project Manager

According to the Department of Labor, project managers typically must have a bachelor degree in management or another discipline related to the job in order to enter the profession. Training in subjects such as team building, risk management, and planning can be helpful. Completing courses in the specific industry one plans to enter can also be useful in gaining a competitive edge in the employment market.

The Project Management Institute website contains more information related to being a project manager. PMI also has helpful information for students looking to attain a degree, finacial aid, or credentials in Project Management at http://www.pmiteach.org/student_resources/. For an extensive list of available bachelor degree in management programs, prospective students may visit College-Pages.com, the education and career resource website.

Forensic nursing, in particular, is currently one of the fastest growing disciplines within the field of nursing. A recent article in The FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin profiles forensic nursing with its many sub-specialties. It outlines the career path of a Forensic Legal Nurse Consultant for BSN degree nursing graduates interested in expanding into the field of criminal justice.

What is a Forensic Legal Nurse Consultant?

BSN degree nursing graduates who choose to practice as Forensic Legal Nurse Consultants use their medical knowledge to assist attorneys in cases that involve both law and medicine. They may investigate malpractice and negligence claims, serve as expert medical witnesses, review records and reports, and provide other forms of legal assistance. Forensic Legal Nurse Consultants with BSN credentials are typically employed by insurance companies or law firms. They may also choose to begin a private consulting practice.

Required Education to Become a Forensic Legal Nurse Consultant

Forensic Legal Nurse Consultants must be licensed as Registered Nurses within the U.S. Licensure may be obtained with a hospital diploma, associate degree, or BSN degree nursing program. Training in forensic sciences is essential for Forensic Legal Nurse Consultants. Programs, such as the Forensic Nursing Certificate at Kaplan University, prepare nurses for practicing in the criminal justice arena. Many hospitals also offer internship opportunities for nurses wishing to gain practical work experience in the field of forensic nursing. Students interested in learning more about a career as a Forensic Legal Nurse Consultant may visit the International Association of Forensic Nurses website.

Many workers get started in the field of criminal justice with a high school diploma or associate degree in criminal justice. However, opportunities for advancement and higher salaries more often exist for workers who have earned a criminal justice bachelor degree. Online Criminal Justice degree colleges are giving current professionals the chance to reap the career rewards of a criminal justice online bachelor degree while maintaining the demands and responsibilities of a job in the criminal justice field. Advanced study also affords students the opportunity to delve into specific topics within criminal justice, such as law enforcement.

Spotlight on Law Enforcement in Criminal Justice

One of the unique features of the criminal justice online bachelor degree is the choice between seven areas of focus within the field of criminal justice:

BSCJ: Corrections.

BSCJ: Crime Analysis.

BSCJ: Crime Scene Investigation.

BSCJ: Forensic Psychology.

BSCJ: Fraud Examination.

BSCJ: Law Enforcement.

BSCJ: Private Security.

Students deciding to study the criminal justice online law enforcement track have the opportunity to either begin or advance a career in law enforcement. Law enforcement students discover the roles and responsibilities of law enforcement personnel. They also explore recent issues and trends associated with the current practice of law enforcement. Finally, law enforcement students learn about evidence, proof, and the justice system.

Earning Power with a Bachelor Criminal Justice Degree Online

A brief look at data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the objective value of a criminal justice online bachelor degree. More education means higher earnings and lower rates of unemployment. On average, a professional who has earned a criminal justice online bachelor degree or another discipline earns $900 per week, whereas the worker with only a high school education earns just $554 per week. Going deeper into the data, that means the bachelor ’s degree holder earns 62% more than the high school graduate. Over a lifetime, this adds up to major differences in total earnings.

Students interested in learning more about law enforcement and other specialties in criminal justice education may visit College-Pages.com, the education and career resource website. Prospective students will find an extensive list of available criminal justice online bachelor degree programs as well as informative articles for making education and career decisions.

In the recent past there has been a shift in types of diseases affecting the U.S. population, from acute infections to chronic illnesses. Life expectancy has been steadily increasing. As a result, the percentage of the population over the age of 65 is greater than ever before. In 2000, 12% of the population was over the age of 65. By 2030, that number is expected to grow to 19% while the amount of people over the age of 80 is predicted to more than double. Consequently, nurses who have attended campus or online nursing class programs to work in long-term care are expected to experience significant employment growth in the coming decades.

What is Long-Term Care Nursing?

80% of persons aged 65 and older have at least one chronic condition while 50% have at least two. Many end up unable to care for themselves and enter long-term nursing care facilities. Professionals who have attended campus or online nursing class programs to specialize in long-term care nursing are responsible for much of the direct patient care necessary for these elderly patients. Nurses with a campus or online nursing degree may hold positions such as:

Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN)

Registered Nurse (RN)

In-Service Coordinator

Director of Nursing (DON)

Responsibilities include everything from assisting residents with activities of daily living to administering tube feedings and providing wound care. Campus and online nursing class programs now also prepare nurses to comply with government regulations in long-term care. Nurses who work in long-term care must complete assessments such as the Minimum Data Set (MDS) and prepare for state inspections on a yearly basis.

Required Education to Work as a Long-Term Care Nurse

Although registered nurses may legally practice with a hospital diploma, associate’s degree, or RN to BSN (bachelor’s degree in nursing), employers most often prefer to hire registered nurses who have earned at least a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree are equipped with the communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills necessary in today’s health care environment. Taking campus or online nursing class programs towards a bachelor’s degree can also help registered nurses move into more advanced positions in nursing.

Prospective students who are interested in RN to BSN online programs may visit College-Pages.com, the education and career resource website. Students will find an extensive list of available online nursing class programs and resource articles to aide in education and career decisions.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more education means higher earning power and lower unemployment rates. Earning a bachelor’s degree increases average weekly earnings by 62% over settling for a high school diploma. Do earnings just keep skyrocketing the more education a student pursues?

Average Cost of a Graduate Degree

The U.S. Department of Labor reports average yearly tuition for the 2001 - 2002 academic year was $8,891 for graduate students. However, there are hidden costs to consider as well. If a professional takes time off from work to go back to graduate school full-time, missed salary, health insurance, and lost experience in the job market must also be taken into consideration. For some students, room and board must also be factored into the total bill.

Average Financial Payoffs of a Graduate Degree

The hard data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that bachelor’s degree holders earn an average of $900 per week, whereas graduate degree holders earn an average of $1064 per week. This translates into a $164 weekly difference or an $8,528 yearly difference. Over a lifetime, a professional with a bachelor’s degree working full-time will earn $2 million and a professional with a graduate degree will earn an average of $2 million. In short, a graduate degree typically results in higher earnings in most fields of study, usually to the tune of about 21% higher.

Financial Payoffs by Specific Occupation

The increase in earnings for graduate degree holders varies by occupation and, for some, can be quite dramatic. Psychologists who earn a graduate degree increase their earnings by a whopping 78% over psychologists with just a bachelor’s degree. Other careers that tend to increase in earnings with a graduate degree include:

Education

Counseling

Social work

Management analysts

Biological scientists

Market and survey researchers

In careers that require only a bachelor’s degree for entry into the job market, a graduate degree is not likely to significantly boost earnings. But in industries that value advanced education and are made up mostly of workers who have at least a bachelor’s degree, a graduate degree is likely to be a worthwhile investment.

Part-Time Graduate Study: A Possible Compromise

Earning a graduate degree does not have to mean quitting work and attending school full-time. Many students choose to pursue a graduate degree on a part-time basis while maintaining at least a part-time work schedule. This allows students to keep benefits like health insurance and 401K plans while also staying current in the work field. Many schools are now offering alternative class schedules as well as online graduate degree programs to allow mid-career professionals to maintain their current work and family responsibilities.

More information on employment and earning outlooks by career is available through the Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2008 - 2009. College-Pages.com is another valuable source of information with an extensive list of available programs and education resources.

Molecular manufacturing, one of the most advanced types of nanotechnology, applies the principles of mechanical engineering to make miniature machines on the nano-scale. The potential implications for advances in science and technology offer exciting career opportunities for mechanical engineering degree students.

Career Opportunities in Nanotechnology

Graduates of mechanical engineering BS degree online programs are most likely to see nanotechnology at work in medicine and electronics. For example, nanotechnology could be used to create machines that mimic human cells and is currently being utilized to design computer microchips. Another potential use is the manipulation of food molecules to alter the nutritional composition or texture of a product. Mechanical engineering technology degree graduates will most likely be employed by universities, businesses, and government and nonprofit research centers as the field of nanotechnology continues to grow.

Required Education to Work in Nanotechnology: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

Nanotechnology encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including:

Physics

Chemistry

Biology

Mechanical Engineering

Electrical engineering

One way to enter the field is to pursue a mechanical engineering BS degree online. Students in the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program receive training in:

Physics

Engineering math

Machine design

Obtaining employment in research at the university level typically requires a PhD in General Engineering or a related discipline. Students may select classes appropriately throughout their educational training in order to specialize in nanotechnology.

As opposed to general administrative assistants, medical administrative assistants who work in the health care environment are expected to experience promising job growth through the year 2014. Health care administration degree graduates are often required to know a variety of specialized skills and terminology that make their services invaluable to physicians and hospital administrators. Those who earn an associate of arts in health administration degree are in an opportune position to market their skills as the health care industry continues to expand.

What does a Medical Administrative Assistant Do?

Medical administrative assistants work for physicians, medical scientists, and hospital administrators or CEO’s to help with a variety of tasks. Graduates with a health care administration degree may assist in the creation of reports, speeches, and articles. Additional duties may include helping to prepare for conferences and transcribing physicians’ dictations of medical notes. Some medical administrative assistants also take basic medical histories and admit patients to the hospital.

Required Education to Work as an Administrative Assistant in Health Care: Value of an Associate of Arts in Health Care Administration

Due to the specialized nature of health care, medical administrative assistants must be knowledgeable in medical terminology and regulatory and ethical issues that affect the health care industry. Some entry-level positions may be obtained with a high school diploma and on-the-job or online health care training. However, employers most often prefer to hire workers with an associate of arts in health care administration degree for their specialized training and critical thinking skills.

Students in the University of Phoenix Online health associate degree program receive:

Training in information technology

Training in financial management

Training in regulatory and ethical issues in the health care environment

Training in public policy

Specialized training can qualify graduates for more advanced and better paying positions. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers with an associate’s degree earn an average of $128 more every week compared to workers with only a high school diploma.

Kennedy established the Peace Corps to promote mutual understanding between Americans and foreign countries. The Peace Corps currently has a presence in over 70 countries in which volunteers work with: Government, Schools, Education, Entrepreneurs, Health, HIV/AIDS, Information technology, Agriculture, The environment.

For graduates who possess a bachelor of science degree in nursing, the Peace Corps offers some exciting career opportunities.

What Does a Registered Nurse Do in the Peace Corps?

In general, graduates with a bachelor of science degree in nursing who choose to practice in the Peace Corps work to ensure the health and safety of volunteers. Nurses are involved in medical screenings of volunteers, primary care of volunteers while on assignment, and vaccination administration. Graduates with a bachelor of science degree in nursing are also involved in vaccinating children in foreign countries against problematic diseases. The range of diseases and nursing activities can vary widely depending on the country of assignment. Some registered nurses may even be called upon to serve as a Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO), which encompasses acting as the sole primary care provider where access to a physician is otherwise limited. Acting as a Registered Nurse for the Peace Corps is a paid position and offers a competitive salary, according to Sarah Adams, RN, CFNP, MS, an international health coordinator for the Peace Corps.

Requirements to be a Peace Corps Nurse

Educational requirements for Peace Corps nurses vary according to position. All nursing positions require a minimum of graduation from a hospital diploma, associate degree, or bachelor of science degree in nursing program along with current registration. Nurses who wish to practice as a PCMO are required to have a bachelor of science degree in nursing and preferred to have at least 5 years of health care experience. International experience boosts employment prospects with the Peace Corps as a way of demonstrating knowledge of life outside the U.S.

For more information about employment with the Peace Corps, students may visit the Peace Corps website. College-Pages.com, a leading education and career resource website, is another source of information with an extensive list of available bachelor of science degree in nursing programs and informative articles for making education and career decisions.

When considering hospice palliative care, many professionals immediately think of caring for patients who are close to death and typically suffering from cancer. Graduates of campus and online nursing schools may also imagine a hospice patient as someone who has lost all hope after being told his or her illness is terminal. But according to practicing hospice palliative care nurses, these images are mere myths and fail to encompass the entire function of hospice palliative care nursing.

What is Hospice Palliative Care?

Graduates of campus and online nursing schools who choose to specialize in hospice palliative care focus on making patients comfortable and as free of pain as possible. The goal of treatment is to relieve symptoms rather than to cure a terminal disease. In addition to providing pain medications, a hospice palliative care nurse with a campus or online nursing degree may administer a blood transfusion to lesson the patient’s suffering from dyspnea (difficulty breathing) or may even give antibiotics when pneumonia is causing uncomfortable fever and chills.

Contrary to common perceptions, hospice palliative care is for a wider range of individuals than simply terminally ill cancer patients. Alberta RN, an official publication of a group of registered nurses, maintains that hospice palliative care is for any patient at risk of, diagnosed with, or experiencing a life-threatening illness no matter what their prognosis or age. A patient may also voluntarily exit hospice palliative care and return to aggressive medical care at any point in time.

Qualities Necessary for Success as a Hospice Palliative Care Nurse

Hospice palliative care nurses may assist their patients through the stages of grief and encourage a new focus for hope that is based on feeling good on a day-to-day basis and becoming comfortable with the idea of death. According to the Department of Labor, nurses need to be caring, sympathetic, responsible, and detail-oriented. Registered nurses also need to be emotionally stable in order to deal with job stresses, such as crises, emergencies, and human suffering. Internship and on-the-job training while completing an online program RN to BSN curriculum is necessary to gain the practical work experience required to practice as a hospice palliative care nurse.

Required Education to Practice as a Hospice Palliative Care Nurse

Registered nurses may legally practice in the U.S. with a hospital diploma, associate degree, or an RN to BSN degree (bachelor of science in nursing) . However, employers more often prefer to hire nurses who have attended a campus or online nursing program that leads to a bachelor of science in nursing. Particularly for specialized nursing fields, such as hospice palliative care, attending campus or online nursing schools for an RN to BSN degree teaches communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills that are necessary in today’s health care environment.

Many schools are now offering RN to BSN online programs that have been designed specifically for working registered nurses. Online nursing schools, such as the University of Phoenix, provide academic training in the following areas:

Physical Sciences

Life Sciences

Social Sciences

Humanities

Other online nursing schools, such as South University, possess degree online RN programs that allow students to specialize in specific areas of nursing, including online nursing degree programs.

Those interested in learning more about online nursing degree options are encouraged to visit College-Pages.com, the education and career resource website.

As of 2004, there were already 605,000 workers in the management analyst field. Enrolling in a campus or online management degree program is a promising way to get started in this lucrative industry.

What is a Management Analyst?

A graduate of a campus or online management degree program who chooses to specialize as a management analyst is responsible for presenting ways to improve a company’s structure, efficiency, and profits. Management analysts with a bachelor business degree in management may work with other management analysts as a team or autonomously with the company’s managers. Sample projects a management analyst could undertake include creating an improved inventory control system for a new small business or making recommendations to a larger company as to how to increase worker efficiency and decrease work overlap. A management analyst who has graduated from a campus or online management degree program may pursue self-employment or potentially find employment in the private sector or the government.

Required Education to be a Management Analyst

At a minimum, professionals who wish to become management analysts must earn a campus or online bachelor degree business management diploma. Schools, such as Kaplan University, offer an online management degree program specifically designed for working professionals. Other skills may be required that are specific to the industry that a management analyst chooses to enter. Many employers prefer management analysts to pursue a graduate degree in business or a related discipline. However, entry-level employment in a government management analyst position may be obtained without a graduate degree.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses who have earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing will have better job opportunities than those who have only a hospital diploma or associate’s degree. Registered nurses have the second fastest growing occupation in the nation through the year 2014 no matter what their level of education. However, specialty work and unique job opportunities, such as working abroad, are expected to come most easily to nurses who have attended an online registered nurse program at the bachelor’s level.

A Worldwide Need for Registered Nurses

The need for nursing professionals extends beyond the borders of the U.S. and into countries like England and other parts of Western Europe. The World Health Organization says that Canada, Australia, Western Europe, the Philippines, Africa, and South America are reporting severe nursing shortages.

Graduates of an online registered nurse program and other training programs make up the largest occupation within health care in the U.S. Internationally, registered nurses account for more than 50% of health care workers, and in some developing countries, nurses make up over 80% of health care professionals.

Graduates of a U.S. online registered nurse program are particularly suited to fill international shortages within the field of nursing. The educational standards set forth by the U.S. are highly regarded throughout the world and are sought out by other countries to obtain high quality nursing professionals. Consequently, registered nurses who have completed their training within the U.S., through online nursing schools or RN to BSN programs, can take advantage of wonderful international travel opportunities. Arab countries tend to provide lucrative salary incentives, while countries like England offer generous benefits packages that include up to 7 weeks of paid vacation every year.

Opening Doors with an RN to BSN Degree

Educational and registration requirements vary depending on the country in which a registered nurse plans to practice. Some countries may have their own licensing boards to which a registered nurse must apply. Countries that have no regulating organization typically want to see a registered nurse’s credentials from the U.S.

U.S. standards allow nurses to practice with a hospital diploma, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree in nursing. Although, specialized practice in areas such as emergency care, critical care, and specific disease conditions often require completion of an online registered nurse program or campus program at the bachelor’s level.

Attending on online registered nurse program at the bachelor’s level provides communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills that are essential to the expanding role of registered nurses within the health care system. RN to BSN online programs such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Kaplan University allow registered nurses to focus on a particular specialty of interest while earning their online nursing degree. The University of Phoenix also has an online registered nurse program that has been designed especially for working registered nurses. As of 2004, there were over 600 RN to BSN programs in response to the field’s increasing emphasis on advanced education.

Finding an international opportunity as a registered nurse is certainly no simple task. Educational requirements, work visas, and language compatibility can be cumbersome to organize. However, international agencies and opportunities are plentiful and available to the registered nurse with a genuine desire to work abroad.

For more information on the profession of nursing and how to find an online registered nurse program, prospective students may visit College-Pages.com, the career and education resource website.

Thanks to heightened awareness and improved screening initiatives, deaths from colorectal cancer have been steadily declining since the 1980’s. Nurses who care for patients with colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal diseases are called gastroenterology nurses. LPN to BSN program students are studying to improve the lives of patients who suffer from colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and other life-altering conditions.

Gastroenterology Nurses Work in a Variety of Roles and Settings

As graduates of the LPN to BSN program, alumni are qualified to work in several types of health care settings:

Physician Offices that employ LPN to BSN program graduates
