I know that some parts of the US are more welcoming to GLBT students and allies than others. Which schools are more GLBT friendly? I would like to know more about schools with little violence toward GLBT students and that offer organizations for students to get support.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana is GLBT friendly. It's a large campus and appears to be progressive. I don't think there would be violence toward GLBT there.

Schools that appear to be GLBT safe are New York Univ, Univ North Carolina (Charlotte), MIT, Vassar, Univ of Massachusetts (Amherst), and UCLA according to the Campus Climate Index. I think that there are a lot more out there.
