I really get upset paying mega bucks for a required text book and then the professor not even using the book during the course. I do consider this wasted money. College is expensive enough without this.
I agree, especially since when you sell them back you don't even get half the cost. I have had this happen a few times. I started waiting until I got the syllabus the first day of class to decide if I was going to buy it or not. There is also Chegg where you can rent the books for the semester instead of buying it.
Ugh, same here! Eventually, after buying unnecessary textbooks for a year, I got into the habit of not buying them until I actually got the syllabus and could see how much we'd be using the textbook. Even then, sometimes you only needed it for maybe one or two things, and so I'd just get it from the library whenever I needed it.
