 Post subject: How many letters of recommendation

How many letters of recommendation do you think are necessary? I am not sure myself. I think if you can get as many as you can, that's good, right? Does it matter what topic the student is in at all? What if a student did OK at math but excelled in History and English. Would a letter from the math teacher saying how hard the student worked be good?

I think 3 is the magic number. If you supply too many or too much information, the whole "reading the application" process gets too long for the reader. Supply just enough to make it interesting.
