I love studying music, though I don't play any instruments. I just like to study it from a historical standpoint. I really like the 19th century Romantic music. In terms of modern music, I like to study it from a social perspective to try and understand how lyrics are shaped by social and economic factors.

Music history and the transition from one period to the other is fascinating. From the Baroque to the Classical period represents such a stark contrast. The same is true for the Classical to the Romantic period. I suppose we are technically still in the Contemporary period with everything from Gershwin's jazz opera to 60s rock 'n roll.
I am not a huge fan of the Baroque period. From the Classical period through the present, I love so much of the music in every period that it would be impossible to choose a favorite.
