Do you think it's even possible to get through college without having your own computer nowadays? I'm sure they have resource centers where you could go and do research and type your papers but I'm wondering if that's a viable option. I didn't have on in the mid-80's but I my niece will be starting soon.

It depends where you go. Some school have a lot of computers available for use, not just in labs but in the library as well. I think it is very possible to get through only using those because I see people do it.

I personally don't think it's possible to go to college and not have a computer at home. Some schools don't have enough computers available for use and if they do, it might be inconvenient to use due to time constraints, etc. Nowadays, you can buy a basic computer for as little as $300. It would be definitely worth the investment.

Some people are starting to switch to tablets, but when school starts back up they are going to regret it. Sure they are fun for entertainment but with out a keyboard writing papers will suck.

I wonder if the grants and scholarships they have now would include the cost of a laptop. It seems like it'd be a big disadvantage not to own one and for those kids from low-income families I would hope they'd be included.
