Sometimes I think that computer classes are basically a waste of money, as anything you need to know you can learn on your own for free. On the other hand, if you want to work for an IT company you basically need a degree, right? :geek: It's kind of ridiculous, really.

An IT degree makes sense to me, moreso than some degrees in the computer and technlogy field. Sure, you can learn it on your own, but a degree proves that you did. If you plan to be self-employed, it might not make quite as much difference.

Experience speaks loudly when it comes to actually working. However, some companies have to have that piece of paper. Go get the degree. If you already know everything the course tries to teach, you should be able to breeze right through.

What about taking a college credit equivalency exam? I don't know for how many courses those are available, and I think there's a fee. However, it should be much cheaper than the course and it could help you get through school much faster.

Great idea Liza. Do look into that. The company you are applying for may even have a way to test your knowledge without having to have the degree. You may expect to be paid less though. The degree speaks volumes.

Unfortunately, most jobs require a degree now. The good news is, if you are learning the programs on your own, and then taking classes, you'll probably do really well in them. A high GPA looks good to employers. And you can also show your enthusiasm to learn on your own when you are in an interview.
