How to Eat for Productivity

We have all heard the term ‘brain food’ or maybe eating for brain productivity, but is this really true?  Can you eat a certain way that will boost your brain power and make you more productive in your everyday life?  Students from around the country are on the edge of their seat waiting to hear what food they need to eat in order to boost productivity and improve their studies.

Make the First Meal Count

Your mother may have been telling you this for years, but it is a reality – breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Without a healthy breakfast, you can be promised lethargy, fatigue and an inability to focus.  Studies show that college students who eat a healthy breakfast that consists of fresh fruit, whole grains and lean protein fair better throughout the day.  This means that they are less likely to binge on unhealthy snacks around lunchtime or doze off in class around eleven o’clock each morning.

You don’t have to get rid of your coffee in the morning either, to maintain a healthy lifestyle geared toward productivity.  Having one to two cups of coffee each morning actually improves your mood and helps you focus for lengthier periods of time.  The best way to drink coffee for productivity is to eliminate the sugar and high fatty cream and instead enjoy the caffeine bomb in its natural state.

Eat Your Veggies

Fresh vegetables are excellent when it comes to brain food and improving productivity.  The natural vitamins and minerals that are found in veggies remain when they are uncooked.  Cooked veggies typically strip away from some of the vitamin content, so in an effort to keep the vitamins and nutrients at a high level, take heed to eat them raw.

Fresh salads are a great way to enjoy fresh vegetables.  Getting creative allows you to enjoy veggies without growing board and tired of the same old snacks.  Adding a mix of green and red peppers, accompanied with a hard-boiled egg will even offer a dose of omega-3s, which are great for brain power and increased nourishment.

All Things in Moderation

Keeping food intake in moderation is great for productivity.  Eating high levels of saturated fats and processed foods in abundance can cause a lot of harm to your energy level and ability to focus.  In order to be productive, you must be willing to give up the late night snacking habits that you may have incorporated into your daily lifestyle.  Eliminating high sugar sweets after dinner or excessive cocktails after a hard class day will help you become more productive.

If you wake up moving like a turtle in the morning, you may need to evaluate your diet from the night before.  Simple tweaks and modifications can be made that greatly impact your ability to be productive.  The first step to success is recognizing that there is room for improvement.  Once you take notice, you are well on your way to making the changes you need to eat for productivity’s sake.
