Estimates fail to take into consideration the costs of room and board, books, time, and effort. Does the four year investment in a bachelor’s degree come with sufficient rewards?

Financial Rewards of a Bachelor’s Degree

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the highest-paying occupations in America demand at least a bachelor’s degree education for entrance into those industries. On average, a professional who has earned a bachelor’s degree earns $900 per week, whereas the worker with only a high school education earns only $554 per week. Going deeper into the data, that means the bachelor’s degree graduate earns 62% more than the high school graduate. Over a lifetime, this adds up to major differences in total earnings.

The Bachelor’s Degree at Work in the Job Market

In addition to higher earnings, bachelor’s degree graduates have lower unemployment rates and a wider variety of career options than workers without a college degree, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The job market appears to be increasingly favorable towards workers with a college degree. Between 2002 and 2012, over 14 million job openings are predicted to be won by bachelor’s degree graduates or master’s degree graduates who are entering a profession for the first time.

Should Everyone Get a Bachelor’s Degree?

Although the data certainly sheds a favorable light on the prospect of earning a bachelor’s degree, there are additional factors to consider before jumping in head-first. Job prospects and earning power are also affected by the local job market, the type of bachelor’s degree earned, and the industry a worker is attempting to enter. The most lucrative and fastest-growing industries for bachelor’s degree holders are expected to be in business, computers and engineering, education, counseling, and healthcare. For some professions, an associate’s degree may be sufficient, whereas other professions may require a graduate degree to take advantage of new entry-level job openings.

How to Get Started Towards Earning a Bachelor’s Degree

For more information on job outlook by career and education level, prospective students can visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2006 – 2007. The number of subjects and avenues towards pursuing a bachelor’s degree are endless and include both campus and online bachelor’s degree programs. College-Pages.com is another valuable source of information with an extensive list of available programs and education resources.

Between 2001 and 2010, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the fastest growing occupations will be those that require an associate of arts degree. Currently, over 400,000 associate in arts degrees are awarded to U.S. students every year. These students go on to either directly enter the work force or pursue further education towards a career of choice.

Why Choose an Associate’s Degree in General Studies?

One of the popular areas of study for students in pursuit of a general associate degree is general studies. A general study degree gives students a broad overview of a range of topics that encourage critical thinking skills. For example, the Associate of Arts in General Studies at the University of Phoenix Online offers courses in social sciences, life sciences, communications andhumanities. For students who are undecided on a career or a major of study, an associate of arts in general study program is a way to gain exposure to an array of subjects of interest. General study programs offer a basic educational foundation to better prepare students for the work force or to enter a more specialized bachelor’s degree program in the future.

Entering the Work Force with an Associate of Arts in General Studies

According to the Occupational Outlook Quarterly from the Department of Labor, many employers actually prefer to hire workers who have an associate of arts degree. This translates into significant advantages for students who opt to enter the work force with an associate of arts degree. The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that in 2001, a worker with an associate of arts degree earned an extra $128 per week compared to a worker with only a high school education. It also discovered that the unemployment rate for associate of arts degree graduates was 30% lower in 2001 than for high school graduates.

Pursuing Further Education with an Associate of Arts in General Studies

Students who choose to go on to apply to a four-year university after the completion of an associate of arts degree are often given preference by college admissions over an applicant who has simply taken a few semesters of college courses. This is probably in large part due to the fact that the U.S. Department of Education found associate of arts degree graduates are more likely to finish a bachelor’s degree program. Classes in liberal arts, associate degree components, along with other general study courses, often transfer into bachelor’s degree programs to satisfy up to half of the 120 credits required for completion of a bachelor’s degree program.

Earning an Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies Through Distance Education

Of those students in pursuit of an associate of arts degree, more than 9% chose to enroll in distance education programs in 1998. This number continues to rise as associate of arts degree online programs become increasingly available for working professionals. Enrolling in a general study degree online program, such as the program at the University of Phoenix Online, can allow students to maintain a salary and benefits while working towards an associate of arts degree.

Although a seemingly new technology, distance education has been around for over a century. Isaac Pitman first taught shorthand through correspondence as early as the 1840’s. Of course, the internet has revolutionized the way distance education is conducted and has lead to its wide spread throughout the world. A 1997-1998 government survey found that over 1. million students enrolled in distance education courses and nearly 50,000 college classes were offered through distance education in that academic year alone.

With the advent of the internet, students can now earn an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and even a PhD completely online. A variety of methods exist for each distance learning program, but modern technology brings the conveniences of the classroom often to the student’s home PC. Professors may prerecord lectures and upload them onto the internet for later viewing by students. Most distance education programs also utilize electronic discussion boards, email, chatrooms, and telephone to offer class interaction as well as teacher-student interaction.

Research is finding that today’s distance education student is not the traditional 18-22-year old found in the campus classroom. Students enrolling in online degree programs are typically older, already working, and engaged with responsibilities such as family. These adult learners often choose an online degree program in order to maintain a 40-hour work week while pursuing a college degree or further developing their current professional skills. Online degree programs have turned into a wonderful option for adult learners who are unable to enroll in traditional higher education.

One of the most appealing advantages of distance education programs is the flexibility of completing class work anytime and anyplace. Because lectures are often prerecorded, one student can “attend class” at 6:30 AM while another tunes in at 6:30 PM. It also gives students a broad range of online degree programs from which to choose instead of being limited to the campus degree programs offered in a specific geographical location.

As with anything, distance education does have its drawbacks to consider. Keeping up with an online degree program requires a certain amount of self-discipline and internal motivation. Without a specified class schedule and a professor assigning homework in-person, it can be easy to let family and work responsibilities swallow up study needs. It also takes effort to maintain effective communication with the professor and other students by keeping up with emails and discussion boards.

Students interested in pursuing an online degree program have a large selection of universities to choose from. Approximately one-third of all postsecondary learning institutions offered distance education programs in the 1997-1998 academic year, a number that has surely grown since the survey period.

As opposed to a bachelor’s degree, which requires an average of 120 college credits, an associate’s degree typically involves 60 credits or about 20 classes. Most programs can be completed in two years. Upon completion of an associate’s degree, students are prepared to either directly enter their career of choice or transfer to a four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree.

According to the Occupational Outlook Quarterly, a Bureau of Labor Statistics publication, the fastest growing occupations between 2001 to 2010 will be those most often requiring an associate’s degree. In fact, many employers actually prefer to hire workers who have an associate’s degree. This translates into significant advantages for students who opt to begin their higher education pursuits with an associate’s degree. The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that in 2001, a worker with an associate’s degree earned an extra $128 per week compared to a worker with only a high school education. It also discovered that the unemployment rate for associate degree holders was 30% lower in 2001 than for high school graduates.

The educational advantages of associate’s degrees are numerous as well. The most obvious and often cited advantage is the cost of the degree. Average tuition at a four-year public university was $3506 in the 2000 – 2001 academic year, whereas the cost of a community college or two-year university was only $1359. Another advantage of the associate’s degree is the opportunity for a student with low highschool grades to catch up academically. Most associate degree programs are open to anyone with a high school diploma or GED. Lastly, students who choose to go on to apply to a four-year university after the completion of an associate’s degree are often given preference by college admissions over an applicant who has simply taken a few semesters of college courses. This is probably in large part due to the fact that the U.S. Department of Education found associate degree holders are more likely to finish a Bachelor’s Degree program.

Of those students in pursuit of an associate’s degree, more than 9% chose to enroll in distance education programs in 1998. The convenience of online degree programs allows students to maintain current responsibilities while completing course work. Students interested in completing an associate’s degree program are encouraged to browse our list of degrees and schools offering associate’s degree both online and at campus locations.

Health care (or healthcare) management has evolved as a distinct profession with the advent of managed health care. Twenty five years ago, the only health care administrators in the field were hospital administrators and public health executives. Now there are management positions in the health care industry that are developing as the industry is evolving. As an example, there are degrees available today that specialize in the management of health care information technology. Personal health care records are subject to important privacy restrictions and are often kept in electronic form. Moreover, they are transferred with regularity as health insurance coverage increasingly dictates who and where your health care provider is going to be.

Because it is an evolving profession, many people who enter health care are doing so as a choice of career change. They are often working adults who see an opportunity in the business, or people who came into the healthcare industry at the entry-level and wish to move up. For people in this position and for college- age students who must work, online colleges provide an excellent alternative to the traditional, campus-based course of study.

For the most part, management positions are going to require at least a bachelor’s degree. There are some jobs, such as medical office management, that are open to people with an associate’s degree or who have completed an intensive course of study on the specific job function and received certification for the position. An example of these intensive, certificate-oriented programs can be found at Everest College, an institution with nine campuses and an extensive online program. They offer certification courses in medical assistant; medical administrative assistant; medical insurance billing/coding; and an associate’s degree in medical assistant as well.

Warren National University offers online degree programs in health administration at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate level. They also offer people who have a bachelor’s degree in science with mid-career courses of study to develop areas of expertise in health administration. Those three courses of continuing education include concentration in health care marketing, concentration in human resources management and a concentration in general management.

University of Phoenix Online has a thorough lineup of health administration degrees available, many of them infused with business courses. Their degree programs include:

Bachelor of Science/Health Administration

Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management

Master of Health Administration

Master of Science in Nursing – Nursing/Health Care Education

Master of Science in Nursing/Integrative Health Care

Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management

Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Health Administration Doctor of Health Administration

One of these degrees is an MBA with specialization in health care management. Two are dual master’s degrees in nursing; one paired with an MBA and the other with a master’s in health administration. Those programs comprise some serious academic focus on the business side of the health care business. The combination of medical expertise and business training is going to be invaluable in the health administration field, according to projections in a U.S. Department of Labor report.

Have you considered seeking education from an Information Technology Institute? The Information Technology industry offers vast opportunities in many different arenas in the national and international business world. Students seeking an education at an Information Technology Institute will have many considerations to make when choosing a career specialty. Information Technology Institutes offer working professionals the opportunity to further their career and advance their knowledge, leading to greater opportunity and, hopefully, those pay raises we are all so fond of.

Information Technology Institutes, such as ITI (Information Technology Institute of Toronto), and ITT Technical Institute, offer certificate programs in Business Systems Analysis, Certified Information Systems Security, E-Commerce Professional Development, and Object Oriented Development. In these specialties, Information Technology Institutes seek to educate the student to create reusable applications using the fundamentals of object oriented programming techniques, build data-driven Web applications, create and manage online stores, operate security systems, and identify risk. Students participate in business systems analysis, development of data models, creation of online catalogs, build component-based applications, and develop data access classes. Several of these certifications require one to four years of experience in the Information Technology field. For this reason, students considering an education at an Information Technology Institute may also wish to consider the many other opportunities for obtaining a degree in Information Technology.

There are several colleges and universities that offer educational programs in the field of Information Technology and it’s many specialties, with many offering online degrees. The University of Phoenix offers Bachelor’s degree programs in Web Design and Multimedia, Information Systems, Information Technology and Visual Communication, Business Information Systems, Information Technology, and E-Commerce, placing an emphasis on the business administration of Information Technology so that students are fully prepared for the workforce after graduation. Students focus on analysis of business technology, software architecture, and the acquisition of technical theories. American InterContinental University (AIU) also offers a Bachelor’s degree program in Information Technology online that develops appropriate programming skills and educates students in data administration. Additionally, Warren National University also offers a fully-accredited Bachelor’s of Science program in Software Engineering that provides students with a comprehensive knowledge in the tools, techniques, and principles of software development and maintenance. Capella University offers Bachelor’s of Science degrees in General Information Technology and Graphics and Multimedia as well.

With the industry of Information Technology growing rapidly, in the areas of Information Technology support, E-Commerce, and security, for example, you may be considering an education in one of these fast-paced positions. Career opportunities continue to be unlimited in the Information Technology field, so now is the time to consider the several colleges and universities that offer certification and degree programs in the various specializations of Information Technology.

With the continuing fear of terrorist attacks since September 2001, criminal justice careers have been the focus of much attention. The government actively recruits individuals with criminal science degrees. While some criminal justice careers require only a high school education and physical and mental preparedness, advancement within the field is only possible with a degree in criminal justice. Working adults who wish to transition to a career in law enforcement should seek an online degree in criminal justice.

Online degrees in criminal justice take three forms. The Associate’s Degree requires two years of coursework. A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice requires four years of college coursework. Most government positions will require potential job candidates to carry a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree. For those seeking advancement into management and more technical positions, a Doctoral Degree in Criminal Justice will be necessary.

Most students receive a well-rounded education covering the inner workings of the law. Online criminal justice degree programs also use real world examples to supplement classroom theory. Best of all, working adults no longer need to worry about balancing the demands of getting an education with maintaining work schedules.

Criminal justice also covers competencies in criminal investigation, criminal justice research methods, the fundamentals of criminal law, justice systems, police systems, and ethics. A successful curriculum combines interdisciplinary work in psychology, sociology, and public administration.

Graduates with online degrees in criminal justice have applied their knowledge to occupations such as paralegals, trial lawyers, and social workers. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is needed for careers as fraud investigators, loss prevention managers, or police detectives. Access to management positions in forensics, crime prevention, and criminal investigation requires a Master’s Degree. Because of the new job opportunities arising from the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the Labor Department projects continued growth annually at a rate of 29% through 2010.

Online classes are becoming the norm for working adults. While online formats offer a fair degree of flexibility for those requiring it in order to meet scheduling demands, much of the content delivered still lacks the interactivity and skillful entertainment of a live teacher in a traditional classroom setting. Online instruction demands a discipline and focus that most find difficult to achieve in an independent learning environment. In short, a successful delivery of an online class that supports the learning objectives and actually teaches something worthwhile takes some skill and finesse.

Classroom teachers often fail to deliver the same level of excellence in an online class as they do in a traditional classroom. Part of this failure comes in part from the failure of the teacher to recognize that the forum of online thinking is very different from classroom thinking. Successful online instructional design requires an understanding of how adults think, learn, and retain information. Keeping topics relevant to the course in as succinct a format as possible is the key to making online learning a success.

Because of the recent popularities of this format, universities have taken the lead in developing distance education master degree programs that standardizes the teaching of online classes. These master degree programs improve the rates of online teaching by addressing the fundamental differences in between the two forums and using these differences to develop formats compatible with the mode of learning.

Capella University – School of Education Capella University offers the Masters in Instructional Design for online learning. This program emphasizes the planning, organization, design, method of delivery, and evaluations of online classes.

Business administration tops the list of ten most desirable and in-demand degrees to have. Higher starting salaries and better job advancement opportunities usually accompany an advanced degree in business administration. While traditionally the domain of young graduates, working men and women are returning to school to take advantage of the limitless opportunities afforded by accredited schools of business administration. These same men and women can best realize this potential by taking advantage of the numerous online business administration degree programs offered around the country.

Online schools of business administration are gaining competitive ground with traditional classroom programs. Company executives recognize that the online schools deliver the same educational objectives as classroom courses, while also preserving the integrity of the work force. In fact, companies proactively send employees back to the classroom and are rewarded with the return of a more educated, resourceful, and efficient employee base.

Working men and women aren’t limited to attending a school in a local or regional area. Online schools of business administration offer a limitless variety of opportunities and options all within the confines of the home, simply by connecting a computer or laptop to the Internet. While the options and pricing varies, many schools offer competitive programs at reasonable rates, a considerable value in realizing career ambitions.

Below are but two of the many options available for online business administration programs offered around the nation:

University of Phoenix Online

The University of Phoenix Online is a leader in online education. Students receive practical classroom experience delivered by experienced faculty.

There are many paralegals who are able to land the position with a certificate alone; the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) certificate to be exact. The job was created in the 1960s, and at that time there was a list of training requirements and a certification process was developed. Colleges then developed degree programs for the role of the paralegal, which separated this position from that of a legal secretary. Paralegals are more involved with legal case preparation, case research, and drafting court documents.

In paralegal studies, colleges offer associate’s bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Online institutions provide these and certification programs for the aspiring paralegal, and completion can take nine to eighteen months. Some of these programs require internships. If you are interested in breaking into the business, certification might be a means for you to do so.

Only a handful of institutions offer paralegal studies at the master’s level. These are more geared for individuals who want to teach paralegal studies. A majority of individuals interested in this career opt for the associate’s or bachelor’s degree.

The typical associate’s degree program in paralegal studies requires core courses in liberal arts along with paralegal courses. Some of the liberal arts topics covered are science, mathematics, social science, English language and literature, and American history. A bachelor’s degree program in paralegal studies will have similar requirements, only more credits will be needed.

Classes related to paralegal studies may include legal writing, case research, torts, law office management and the judicial system. An associates degree online would take less than two years, which is the normal amount of time this level of degree would take at a community college.

The accelerated learning programs online for the bachelor’s degree level may take two to three years to complete, as opposed to the four years a traditional college would normally require. As with the associate’s level, there will be a core of liberal arts and a number of paralegal studies electives. A more thorough background is provided with a bachelor’s degree.

Kaplan University has a paralegal studies department that offers both associate’s and bachelor’s degrees. Their bachelor’s program has four separate options: general paralegal studies, or a paralegal bachelor’s degree with a specialty in alternative dispute resolution, office management, or in personal injury.

Some law firms have raised the education level required to begin as a paralegal, since the career has become more popular. While certification might help an individual obtain an entry level position with a law firm, those with college degrees would be employed with more case-related responsibilities. There are certain law firms that require a bachelor’s degree from the beginning.

Online education has become the cornerstone in distance learning. Almost half of the colleges and universities in this country offer non-traditional education programs. These come in the form of branch locations for universities, evening courses, and online classes. Information on a school’s website will most likely include the details on any online degree program that is available through that particular college or university.

If you are after professional certification, online institutions are a great place to begin. Individuals who are already working and want to improve or are looking for a career change will find that online schooling is a convenient option. Certificates are available online for Certificates for paralegals, medical assistants, dental assistants, project management and several health care specialties are offered by a number of online colleges and universities.

There seems to be more opportunities in the areas of business, education, health care and technology through online schools. All of these industries have a trend of mid-career advancement. The field of education in particular places value on continued education even long after beginning a career.

The MBA is increasing in demand in the business arena, and the master’s in business administration is available online. There are a number of specialties to choose from including accounting, marketing, global business management, finance, public administration, retail management, human resource and public administration. You can major in any of these specialties through the University of Phoenix Online at either the undergraduate or graduate level.

The number of individuals in he technology field who are pursuing continued education is increasing. Engineers are learning business skills, and business professionals are learning about technology related to their products. The curriculum offerings at many online institutions cover these needed issues well.

All three post secondary levels of degrees are offered at Warren National University, and there are several programs in the technical field that are tailored for professionals who have already joined the work force. The technical degrees offer by this school include: computer science, electrical engineering, engineering management, finance, e-business and e-commerce, and management information systems. They also have degrees in environmental, safety, mechanical and software engineering.

It is possible to earn even a doctorate degree online. There are some online schools that have courses that require field research and specialized on-site experience. These programs may coordinate with local facilities to give students the experience they need. One school, for example, has a bachelor’s in education program that connects with Arizona schools to offer student teaching experiences for aspiring educators.

Another field that may require on-site training is health care. Some online health care degree programs have hospitals on campus where training hours can be fulfilled.

Online degrees are certainly becoming mainstream, and are widely excepted in many industries.

Public school teachers in our nation go through a state regulated process for the teaching credential required to teach in schools. Typically, a bachelor’s or master’s degree with major or minor in education is required. High school teachers usually need to major in the subject that they would like to teach, and this sometimes calls for a master’s degree. Teacher certification normally requires that these kinds of educational requirements be met, and that the individual pass an exam.

A majority of colleges offer undergraduate majors, tailored for earning a teaching credential, that take four to five years to complete. Bachelor’s degrees in education focus almost solely on teaching. In such a curriculum, you will encounter subjects like child development, classroom management, teaching fundamentals, and similar topics. Major requirements may include multiple subjects such as social studies, math, reading, and all of the main subjects regularly taught in grades K-6.

Bachelor’s degrees in education are available at certain online educational institutions. Many times these degree programs can be completed within two or three years. Often, college credits that were obtained prior to online enrollment are transferable. In most cases, it seems, online schools tend to offer more master’s programs than bachelor’s degrees in education. A number of master’s programs in education are geared towards people looking to work on the business side of education, or for teachers interesting in moving to an administrative position.

The University of Phoenix Online provides a master’s degree in education with concentrations in elementary education, early childhood education, secondary education, and special education. This university’s programs are fashioned to prepare students for those different teaching environments.

For secondary level teachers, the master’s degree programs focus on individual major subjects like English and language arts, social science and history, science, math, and others. Creating a productive learning environment and adolescent development will also be included in such a degree program. The programs at the University of Phoenix target secondary teaching opportunities.

Jones International University offers a master’s in adult education and administration as well as a higher education leadership and administration degree. These opportunities are for those who want to progress in educational hierarchy.

State teaching certification requirements are transforming, which is creating a change in the focus of teaching degrees. It no longer has to take five years as an undergraduate to achieve the educational goal. Investigate the requirements in the school district that you are interested in teaching in to make sure your educational efforts will move your towards your goal.

There are several online colleges that offer degree programs in the area of education. Most state teaching requirements include both a college degree and teacher certification. Online colleges are rarely equipped with programs that fulfill various state level certification obligations. While Iowa does have some online certification classes available, this is not normally the case. Online educational degrees tend to focus on teacher training but will not provide qualification credentials.

A bachelor’s degree is typically required for teaching on the elementary school level. Quite a few online institutions provide bachelor’s degree programs for elementary education that can only two to three years. Other programs may assist in preparing individuals for certification testing, but they are not included in the college curriculum.

Online degree programs that focus on the development of teaching skills are usually master’s programs. Kaplan University offers two master’s degree programs for Kindergarten through sixth grade, and two other programs for seventh to twelfth grade. Areas of specialization offered are mathematics and literacy and language. The University of Phoenix Online offers master’s degree programs with the following focuses: special education, elementary and secondary teaching, and early childhood education. Job requirements for teaching secondary school will require college credentials in the subject area that is to be taught, such as English, Mathematics, or American history.

Capella University has programs that can assist certified teachers in meeting the requirements to be promoted into management or administrative positions in education. These master’s degree programs include master’s in science degrees with specialization in advanced classroom instruction, curriculum and instruction, and leadership in educational administration. Capella University also offers k-12 teaching and online certification courses.

Online teaching degree courses of study will sometimes have three sections of classes. These might include studies in your subject concentration, courses for licensure, and degree courses. Special education, for instance, may require an additional set of classes. The University of Phoneix has a licensure master’s program, as well as other educational focuses. The programs of study are gears towards assisting the student in obtaining credentials, but everyone has to determine what credentials are needed based on their state requirements.

A great deal of individuals who are interested in pursuing a teaching degree have some college credits already. You can find out from many online universities about being able to transfer those credits. This can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete the degree program. Whether this is done or not, a majority of online degree programs do not take the full four years that traditional college requires. Online institutions offer intensive and accelerated courses of study that speed up the process.

Individuals who begin a college level course of study with the intention of teaching at the elementary or high school level will major in education. It is rare that you will see a program labeled “teaching degree.” Education degrees tend to focus on specific levels or aspects of teaching.

Master’s and doctorate degrees are offered in education. There are program offerings available such as “Master’s in Education/Early Childhood Education.” The University of Phoenix Online offers the following degrees in education:

Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – Adult Education Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – Computer Education Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – ESL Master of Arts in Education/Early Childhood Education Master of Arts in Education/Elementary Teacher Education Master of Arts in Education/Secondary Teacher Education Master of Arts in Education/Special Education

As you may have noticed, not all of these degrees are geared for classroom instruction. Some of these degrees would put a person in an administrative or planning position in a school state board office of education.

Doctoral programs in education are also available at the University of Phoenix Online. The focuses for the two doctoral programs the school offers are educational leadership and curriculum and instruction. An individual with one of these degrees might teach on the college level or take on a leadership role in an educational district.

Capella University offers the following advanced degree programs for people already working as teachers: Leadership in Educational Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, Advanced Classroom Instruction, and Reading and Literacy. These programs are also geared for those interested in educational management or leadership positions. Capella also offers the following advanced degrees for individuals who are not certified teachers: Leadership for Higher Education, Postsecondary and Adult Education, Professional Studies in Education, Instructional Design for Online Learning, Training and Performance Improvement, and Enrollment Management.

There are advanced degree programs available at Jones International University for those who want to become teachers. There are fourteen concentrations available in the school’s master’s of education program offerings. Five of the programs are for those who would like to obtain their teacher’s license. There are also programs for those looking to play administrative roles in education.

With online colleges, and most other institutions, you are likely to obtain your master’s degree along with teacher certification.

In order to embark on a teaching career, a bachelor’s degree along with additional teacher certification is required. In order to teacher at the high school level, some schools require master’s degrees in their particular subject area, such as calculus or Spanish. In many states there has been a shortage of teachers, which has somewhat decreased certification requirements for teachers. Educational requirements have nonetheless remained the same.

Do not assume that it will take six years to acquire a master’s degree before being allowed to teach high school. There are many online institutions that have programs that expedite the process. Credits from other colleges or universities can often be transferred to count towards online degree programs.

There are a few things to consider when attempting to acquire a teaching degree on the internet. First, determine what subject area you would like to focus on, and what age group you would like to teach. It is also important to learn the state requirements for certification in the area you would like to teach. Once you have determined these things, the next step is to search online for appropriate programs.

There is a wide range of education degree programs available at the University of Phoenix Online. These include: Bachelor of Science in Education/Elementary Education Master of Arts in Education/Administration & Supervision Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – Adult Education Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – Computer Education Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – ESL Master of Arts in Education/Early Childhood Education Master of Arts in Education/Elementary Teacher Education Master of Arts in Education/Secondary Teacher Education Master of Arts in Education/Special Education Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership with a Specialization in Curriculum and Instruction

While this university has a number of options available, you might want to consider speaking with an advisor about your aims.

Another college with a comprehensive online program is Jones International University. This is an online of their graduate teacher programs, master’s programs, and offerings for administrators

K-12 Educators and Administrators Specializations

M.Ed. in Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment M.Ed. in Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Administration M.Ed. in K-12 e-Learning Technology and Design: Instructional Technologist

Teacher Licensure and Principal and Administrator Licensure Specializations

M.Ed. in Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Teacher Licensure M.Ed. in Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Teacher Licensure M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Administration: Principal and Administrator Licensure

Obviously, there are many more online education degree programs available beyond these two universities. Go ahead and find out the requirements in your local area, and search online for programs that cover the subject area you wish to teach. You may be able to achieve a master’s degree in much less time than you anticipate.

The past twenty years have ushered dramatic changes in health care. Technological advancements have significantly increased the types of medical exams and treatments that are at the disposal of physicians. The development of managed health care has also altered traditional medical practices. For instance, the invention of numerous types of scanning equipment has changed the field of radiography. This new series of equipment calls for people who can operate them. As a result of new lab technology, there are a number of new specializations for lab technicians.

Because of the financial issues created by the power of the insurance industry, along with the persistent problem of insufficient nursing staffs, positions such as a nurse or a medical assistant have become absolutely essential. The job requirements of a medical assistant include a vast variety of tasks and responsibilities, depending on where the position is held. These responsibilities can range from being a helping hand to a doctor, or handling certain recorded activities with patients.

All of these careers have some sort of degree program available. A position like nursing requires a great deal of study that not will necessarily earn a bachelor’s degree. Other jobs require a certain group of classes along with an exam and certification. The state department of health normally regulates the standards for positions that require certification. You can check with your state department of health about such a position to find out what the requirements are exactly.

There are a number of college degrees available in the health care field, including nursing, and a host of health care management or administration careers. Many online colleges provide three degree levels, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate, in the area of health administration. These include Warren National University, University of Phoenix, and Kaplan University, which also offers a program that enables registered nurses to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

The University of Phoenix Online offer a variety of specializations including health care education, integrative health care, and a nursing combined with a master’s in health administration (double major) and a master’s in nursing combined with an MBA which has a specialty in health care management (also a double major).

There is a degree program provided by the Florida Metropolitan University for Assisted Living Administration. Due to our maturing population, assisted living has become a growing health care specialization. There is a number of assisted living facilities that need trained individuals. Florida Metropolitan University also has a bachelor’s degree program for health administration. Not all programs are offered online, but there are some health care degree programs offered on campus.

The health care industry is a rapidly growing field, and many people are choosing to go back to school to take advantage of this opportunity. It is a great choice for an initial career, or a career change.

Internet-based educational institutions provide a great deal of programs for individuals looking to go into the health care industry. Online certification is available for numerous technical positions in the field. These online education programs are normally intensive, and do not require very many years to complete. The various positions for which online certification is available include medical assistant, radiography technician, nurse’s assistant, medical information technology technician, hospital intake specialist, and several other positions in the field.

Not only are there certification programs, but many online educational institutions offer complete degrees in health care. There are associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate programs that can be obtained on the internet. There degrees may focus on specific areas in the health care field and offer different levels of academic achievement.

Here are a few online colleges or universities that offer such health care related degree programs.

The University of Phoenix Online offer the following programs: Bachelor of Science/Health Administration Bachelor of Science in Nursing Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management Master of Health Administration Master of Science in Nursing Master of Science in Nursing – Nursing/Health Care Education Master of Science in Nursing/Integrative Health Care Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Health Administration Doctor of Health Administration.

Naturally, not all of these programs will require the same amount of time to complete. Online degrees are tailored to adults who are currently working full-time. The University of Phoenix Online utilizes intensive teaching methods that significantly reduce the amount of “class time” required.

Capella University also offers online degree programs, including a master’s in human services with specialization in health care administration. Other master’s degree programs that Capella University offers are master’s of science in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology and sports psychology.

Colorado Technical University Online offers a BA in business with a concentration in health care. They also provide an MBA in health care management.

Jones International University has a unique enrollment calendar. They offer new classes every four weeks, and each concentrated course takes eight weeks. They provide a master’s program in health care management.

Health care information technology is a growing field that many seek degrees in. Online, you may obtain an associated degree in health information technology. Degrees like a bachelor’s in biomedical informatics, which is related to health care research, may also be acquired online. Another online degree, bachelor’s in biomedical engineering technology involves the innovation of therapeutic products, rehabilitative devices and other medical hardware.

We all encounter medical professionals at least once in a while, even if we visit family in a hospital, or go in for our annual check-up. If you pay attention to the various positions around you, there is a good chance that you can eventually have a similar position as a result of an online degree. Do some internet research if it interests you. There is much more out there, and you may find a good program that is right for you.

It has been said that ours is the information age. This can be interpreted to mean that our economy, as well as our society, is built around information. There is, undoubtedly, some truth to this notion. Computers and the Internet ruled the stock market for a period in the nineties, and the consumer market is certainly dominated by electronic products that deliver or receive information in one format or another. Computer science and information technology have become primary focal points in our higher education system, and they play a prominent role in many of the new career opportunities that are being developed today.

The advent of the Internet and the spawning of all the chip-driven, electronic devices that have become part of our social fabric are reflected in the evolving curricula found in higher education. The traditional sciences – physics, chemistry, and the mathematics that accompanies them – are increasingly focused on biotech, nanotech and info tech. Schools of engineering are devoting resources to electrical engineering which, in turn, becomes computer science and the electronics that make our computer networks function.

Technology is finding its place in our schools – as teaching devices in the lower grades, and as academic departments in higher education. Today, you can find college degrees in information technology and many spin-offs of that discipline. Networking, wireless technology, the Internet and all of its new developments and markets – all these things are part of the information technology orbit. Computer science, as an academic discipline, really includes the electronics involved on the cutting edge of new product development. This includes, not only consumer products but, the introduction of new concepts in medical and industrial fields.

Universities and colleges are devoting resources to academics in these fields. For those of us who see a new area of career opportunity and wish to go in that direction, technology is often best pursued at online colleges. People who are working and want to obtain degrees or certifications that will provide job options in technology should explore the opportunities – and efficiency – of the online educational institutions.

Schools, such as University of Phoenix Online, have an entire department devoted to technology. Working professionals, who want to apply their previously-accrued college credits to a degree in information technology, can find the following degree programs at University of Phoenix: Associate of Arts in Information Technology. Associate of Arts in Information Technology/Networking. BS in Business/Information Systems. BS in Business/e-Business. BS in Information Technology. BS in Information Technology/Information System Security. BS in Information Technology/Visual Communications. MBA/Technology Management. MIS – Master of Information Systems. Doctor of Management/Information Systems and Technology.

Kaplan University can offer you 6 associate’s degrees and 6 bachelor’s degrees with specialization in different information technology areas. Among those are: AAS in Computer Information Systems. AASCIS/Java. AASCIS/Networking. AASCIS/Programming. AASCIS/Web Development. AASCIS/Wireless Networking. BS in Information Technology.
Kaplan’s associate’s programs can move you onto a new career path in less than 18 months!

Colorado Technical University has an online program with four information technology degrees at the bachelor’s level, and two technology degrees at the master’s level: B.S. in Business Administration – Information Technology. B.S. in Information Technology – Software Systems Engineering. B.S. in Information Technology – Network Management. B.S. in Information Technology – Security. M.S. in Management – Information Systems Security. M.S. in Management – Information Technology Management.

There are many areas of expertise within the field of technology that are in demand today. For further information, click on any above program of interest and fill out the information request form. The choice is yours: if you have the initiative, an online technology education is there with a career path on the other side.

There is a difference between technical schools and colleges and schools of technology. Technical schools are training centers that will prepare you for every career from auto mechanic, to food marketing, to truck driver. You may find a few technology-oriented careers available at a technical school – such as software programming – or you may not. Technology colleges and schools are either institutions that offer courses for technology-oriented jobs (i.e., computer network maintenance), or they offer full college degrees in information technology and computer science fields, or they offer both.

CDI College is an example of an online college that offers certification training. They have a technology division with nine different academic choices for certification in the field of networking. They have five academic choices in the programmer/developer area, all of which are oriented to website development and maintenance.

University of Phoenix Online offers a variety of technology degrees, ranging from an Associate of Arts in Information Technology to a Doctor of Management in Information Systems and Technology. Their bachelor’s programs include the following: BS in Business/Information Systems. BS in Business/e-Business. BS in Information Technology. BS in Information Technology/Information System Security. BS in Information Technology/Visual Communications.

University of Phoenix also offers two master’s degrees, including: MBA/Technology Management. MIS – Master of Information Systems.

Capella University offers a variety of online information technology degrees, including the following: BS in Information Technology – General. BS in IT – Graphics and Multimedia. BS in IT – Information Assurance and Security. BS in IT – Network Technology. BS in IT – Web Application Development. MBA – Information Technology Management. MS in IT – General Information Technology. MS in IT – Network Architecture and Design. MS in IT – Information Security. MS in IT – System Design and Programming.

Kaplan University has 6 online bachelor’s degree programs in the IT academic area. Specializations include: Database. Multimedia and animation. Networking. Programming. Web development.

Their associate’s degrees in the IT field are all in information systems and include specializations in Java, networking, web development, and wireless networking.

Four online technology colleges, all with different levels of degrees and academic specializations. You can find certification programs and associate’s degree programs in technology fields of study at most public community colleges. Four-year colleges and universities will also have technology studies. Many of the universities have comprehensive schools of computer science that have grown out of their electrical engineering departments.

You can find some esoteric specialties in some of the larger universities, in such areas as computer languages, database design and artificial intelligence. Those sorts of institutions are best suited for those with time and dedication to pursue full four- or five-year courses of study. If you are interested in breaking into the technology field and need a certificate or a college degree to do it – while you are working – then you should consider the online option.

These schools are accredited, well established, and one of them is going to have the degree in the academic focal area that you want. Online technology degrees also, typically, take less time. They are pragmatic courses of study, designed to get you the education you need as efficiently as possible. With every year, technology offerings grow as the industry develops more complexity and areas of specialization.

There are an extraordinary number of schools that provide education programs today in the field of technology. Generally, in the educational world, technology is loosely separated into the fields of computer science and information technology (IT).

Computer science learning programs, at the college level, grew out of the electrical engineering departments at many schools. Many universities still issue degrees in electrical engineering with a computer science specialty. But, the point is that the term “computer science” covers the science of all types of technology hardware, from routers, to fiber optic switches, to laptop screens.

Information technology programs include the study of computer data and its transmission in many forms. The Internet and its functions fall under information technology, as do computer networks and databases. Digital graphics is a form of information technology. The two terms divide an enormous body of learning into the loosely defined areas of hardware and the data that the hardware puts out.

Virtually all community colleges will have associate’s degree programs in computer science, information technology or other academic spin-offs. Traditional universities also provide majors in computer science and in information technology. You can also find a good deal of specialization and a much more direct course to a degree through an online college.

There are institutes and schools that specialize in certification courses for many of the technical support jobs that make technology systems work. CDI College is an online school with perhaps 20 different courses of study in computer networking, programming and maintenance. Everest College is a school with nine campuses and an online program that offers courses in such topics as computer information systems, advanced microcomputer applications, and applied office technology. These online schools and others like them focus on the field of certification for specific technology skill sets.

Westwood College is an online school with 2 technology bachelor’s programs: information systems security and computer network management. Their 2 associate’s degree programs in technology specialize in computer network engineering and technical management.

University of Phoenix Online has a series of bachelor’s and master’s degrees that center on IT, many combined with a concentration on business: Associate of Arts in Information Technology.

Nine times out of ten, in educational parlance, a career in technology is associated with information technology. Computer design is computer science and that can be construed as a technology career. However, the popular use of the term “information technology” in the job market has to do with the data computers turn out.

Information technology data can be any type of information: raw data, document files, images, video and audio files. Career choices may involve software development and computer programming. The field of computer networking involves interconnecting pieces of hardware, but falls into the category of an information technology career, nonetheless.

In the networking field alone, job descriptions include: Network Administrator. Network Architect. Network Engineer. Network Installer.

There are technology college degrees available in all of these fields with the possible exception of installer, in which case the education required might fall under engineering.

Databases have grown large and complex as they have become vital business tools for large corporations. Today there are careers in database administration, database design (a sector of the computer programming field), and data mining. Data mining, a function of CRM (Customer Relations Management), refers both to a class of software and a methodology of business operations, that applies the use of data to the development of more efficient and profitable business operations.

System engineers have careers in technology that give them the job of designing computer networks or, more properly, the manner in which computers relate to one another over those networks. Designing these computer networks could involve: Shared files. Shared printers. Shared uplinks. Shared software. Online teleconferencing.

For every system of any size or complexity, there is a system administrator who has the critical job of keeping the system functioning.

Careers in computer technology include jobs in the product development sector. Those positions include technical writing and quality assurance specialists, as well as project managers, to guide the development of a new product from beginning to end. Software engineers are critical to the development of new information technology products. Electrical engineers can be found throughout the hardware sector of the industry, designing chips and routers and smaller, faster components of all types.

Education for these jobs can be found at technical schools, established universities and online colleges. Many times, the online colleges have the most focused computer technology education programs because the people who seek online learning are often working people looking to make career changes.

Colorado Technical University alone has four associate’s degrees, four bachelor’s and four master’s degrees in their information technology (IT) department. A partial list of majors include: IT Security. IT Management. Software Engineering. Network Management.

While Colorado Technical University operate six campuses, nearly all of these degrees are available online.

Kaplan University offers six associate’s degrees and six bachelor’s degrees online with majors that will direct the student into a career in technology. Many accredited online schools have grown on the strength of their technology degree programs. You’ll be surprised at the number of opportunities there are in the technology field, with online degrees to match.
