Indianapolis is the capital and largest city in Indiana. Indiana colleges and universities located throughout the state offer prime educational opportunities in the midst of a thriving labor market.

Indiana’s Top 5 Industries Employ Graduates of Indiana Universities and Colleges

Several large pharmaceutical companies, including Ely Lily and Mead Johnson Nutritionals, are based in Indiana. College graduates also have opportunities with the top 5 Indiana industries reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, including:

Indiana Trade, Transportation, and Utilities.

Indiana Manufacturing.

Indiana Government.

Indiana Educational and Health Services.

Indiana Leisure and Hospitality.

Healthy Indiana College Labor Market Contributes to Strong Indiana Economy

Many Indiana university graduates live in mid-size cities throughout the state rather than large metropolitan areas. This allows workers and employers to agree on realistic wage levels that attract businesses to the area. The U.S. Census Bureau and Department of Labor reveal the following promising statistics for graduates of Indiana colleges and universities:

$43,091 was the 2004 – 2005 Indiana median household income, just below the national average, but impressive for its local cost of living.

The September, 2006 Indiana unemployment rate was 5%, and has been steadily falling since July, 2006.

3,095,900 people are employed in the state of Indiana.

The 2005 Indiana gross state product was $214 billion.

Large Selection of Indiana Schools Attracts Students to the State

Indiana college students have a variety of educational systems to choose from. Online education is becoming a popular method for Indiana working professionals to advance their career goals. Some Indiana university students are also choosing to combine online and campus-based programs through Indiana schools, such as:

Kaplan University: Indianapolis College Campus and Online Programs.

University of Phoenix: Indianapolis School Campus, Northwest Indiana University Campus and Online Programs.

ITT Technical Institute: Indianapolis University Campus, Fort Wayne College Campus, Evansville School Campus and Online Programs.

Additional online Indiana colleges and universities are available through College-Pages.com, the leading education and career resource website. Prospective students will also find access to informative articles about making education and career decisions in the state of Indiana.

Each year over 400,000 associate’s degrees are awarded to U.S. students. As opposed to a bachelor’s degree, which requires an average of 120 college credits, an associate’s degree typically involves 60 credits or about 20 classes. Most programs can be completed in two years. Upon completion of an associate’s degree, students are prepared to either directly enter their career of choice or transfer to a four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree.

According to the Occupational Outlook Quarterly, a Bureau of Labor Statistics publication, the fastest growing occupations between 2001 to 2010 will be those most often requiring an associate’s degree. In fact, many employers actually prefer to hire workers who have an associate’s degree. This translates into significant advantages for students who opt to begin their higher education pursuits with an associate’s degree. The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that in 2001, a worker with an associate’s degree earned an extra $128 per week compared to a worker with only a high school education. It also discovered that the unemployment rate for associate degree holders was 30% lower in 2001 than for high school graduates.

The educational advantages of associate’s degrees are numerous as well. The most obvious and often cited advantage is the cost of the degree. Average tuition at a four-year public university was $3506 in the 2000 – 2001 academic year, whereas the cost of a community college or two-year university was only $1359. Another advantage of the associate’s degree is the opportunity for a student with low highschool grades to catch up academically. Most associate degree programs are open to anyone with a high school diploma or GED. Lastly, students who choose to go on to apply to a four-year university after the completion of an associate’s degree are often given preference by college admissions over an applicant who has simply taken a few semesters of college courses. This is probably in large part due to the fact that the U.S. Department of Education found associate degree holders are more likely to finish a Bachelor’s Degree program.

Of those students in pursuit of an associate’s degree, more than 9% chose to enroll in distance education programs in 1998. The convenience of online degree programs allows students to maintain current responsibilities while completing course work. Students interested in completing an associate’s degree program are encouraged to browse our list of degrees and schools offering associate’s degree both online and at campus locations.

The Eating Disorders Coalition reports that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. Since 1960, the incidence of eating disorders has doubled. Sadly, children as young as seven are now beginning to develop disordered eating patterns that are harmful to physical health.

Hope for Recovery with Family Counseling

According to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, family counseling services can significantly improve the chance for recovery from an eating disorder. A study released in March, 2006 followed the case of a fifteen year old girl suffering from anorexia who failed to show signs of improvement with individual therapy. The girl was then placed in family counseling services and experienced complete remission from her eating disorder even after five years.

How Family Counseling Works

Family counseling services are usually offered by a professional with a Master in Marriage and Family Therapy. Structural family counseling analyzes family dynamics, including roles, alliances, conflicts, and interaction patterns that may be contributing to the eating disorder. Several studies have shown that family counseling is the most effective treatment approach to eating disorders for younger patients.

The Maudsley Approach is a relatively new method of family counseling services that builds on the findings of previous studies. It is an evidence-based model designed for eating disorder patients who are under the age of eighteen and living with their parents. Rather than focusing on negative family dynamics and the causes of the eating disorder, the Maudsley Approach encourages the parents to take an active role in the child’s recovery. They temporarily take over the task of correcting disordered eating patterns until control can be returned to the child at a reasonable point in the recovery process.

Required Education for a Career in Marriage and Family Counseling

Students who are interested in a career in marriage and family counseling must earn a Master in Marriage and Family Therapy before being licensed to practice in most states. This usually includes two years of full-time study in marriage family counseling along with 600 hours of supervised practice offering family counseling services and counseling marital difficulties.

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredits schools offering a Master in Marriage and Family Therapy. Although it is not a requirement to graduate from a CACREP accredited school to become a counselor, it can be very helpful in obtaining state licensure. Schools such as Capella University offer CACREP accredited programs in marriage family counseling that may be completed entirely online. This can be a convenient option for a student who is already working and possibly juggling family responsibilities.

Additional Resources for Working with Eating Disorder Patients

For those who wish to focus their career in marriage and family counseling on eating disorders, additional training may be necessary. The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals provides education for professionals who work with eating disorder patients semi-annually and also offers a certification in the treatment of eating disorders. More information and resources are also available through the Renfrew Center, a treatment center with multiple locations throughout the U.S.

There is more to the study of nursing today than obtaining certification as an RN. And there are a number of degrees in health care that are options for people interested in entering the health care field. At the entry level and lower management level, you can take a relatively short course of study and receive certification as a medical assistant, a nurse’s assistant or any number of other support roles in the health care field.

At the college level you can find all degree options in one health care profession or another. The best snapshot of industry-wide options comes from a look through the distance learning programs for health care positions. Because online education is job-focused, it is a quick study on the careers that are out there in nursing and other health care professions.

University of Phoenix Online provides a comprehensive program of nursing studies. Some of their nursing degrees incorporate health care administration as well. Their health care master’s programs include two MBA degrees with health care specialization; one of them is a dual master’s degree, combining the MBA with a master’s in nursing. Here is a list of their degrees in health care and nursing:

Bachelor of Science/Health Administration Bachelor of Science in Nursing Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management Master of Health Administration Master of Science in Nursing Master of Science in Nursing – Nursing/Health Care Education Master of Science in Nursing/Integrative Health Care Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Health Administration Doctor of Health Administration

University of Phoenix Online has expanded study in the nursing profession to include a number of areas that are vital in today’s managed health care environment. Their nursing program and their health administration academics are state of the art.

Kaplan University has kept their online health care options to the basics. They offer a bachelor’s degree in health care management. They also have an RN program with a bachelor’s in science at completion.

Colorado Technical University has an online MBA program with emphasis in health care management. They also offer a bachelor’s in science with specialization in health care management. If you are within range of one of their six campuses, you can obtain a bachelor’s in nursing and health care associate’s degrees in the following specializations:

Health Care Information Technology Massage Therapy Medical Assisting Radiologic Technology Surgical Technology

Jones International University has an MBA program that specializes in health care management. Their curriculum includes courses in telemedicine and emerging technologies; marketing health services; e-marketing management; and in information technology management. This sampling of classes indicates to what degree Jones International University sees the health care management business relying on the internet not only for business functions but for medical purposes as well.

Online courses to complete earlier college efforts can lead you to a degree in nursing or a degree with any number of health care administration specializations.

Online colleges show in their academic program designs that they are very much aware of the evolving health care marketplace. As managed health care has evolved, large bureaucracies have appeared in the form of HMOs and large health care provider groups which require people with business management skills. There is also general recognition of the changing requirements in the marketplace.

Management positions where a bachelor’s degree in health care once sufficed now require a master’s in health care. In similar fashion, mid- management positions such as medical office management are often filled by people with bachelor’s degrees when an associate’s degree in health care fit the bill not long ago. Online schools stay on top of these trends and many of them have counseling services that can help you define what the educational needs are for the job you are seeking.

Because of the changing job market, there are a large number of professionals in the health care industry who are going back to school. These are individuals who wish to move up the management ladder and need the degree to carry along with them. Most of these people have some college education behind them. It is in the online colleges that this sort of mid-career adjustment is accomplished most easily because the schools are geared for it.

The goal of the online college is to get you positioned where you want to be in the job market or the professional ranks as efficiently and quickly as possible. A master’s degree obtained through an online college will be completed much quicker than it would on campus and can be done during the hours of your choice. Online schools are also experts in the field of transferring college credits, in order to minimize the requirements for repetition of core courses taken long ago.

The most comprehensive online master’s program in health care administration might be at University of Phoenix Online. Their degrees are designed to incorporate both business essentials and modern medical trends into their courses of study. Below are University of Phoenix Online’s master’s degrees in health care management:

Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management

Master of Health Administration

Master of Science in Nursing

Master of Science in Nursing – Nursing/Health Care Education

Master of Science in Nursing/Integrative Health Care

Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management

Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Health Administration

You can see the mix of medical and administrative skills woven into some of these degree programs. Mixing medical training and management skills is going to be a vital part of future management roles in health care, according to the U.S. epartment of Labor.

Other online colleges also offer excellent curricula in health care management. Capella University has a master’s degree in health care management available online. Kennedy- Western University offers both a master’s and a doctorate in health administration. Specific areas for their master’s degree include managed care, marketing, policy analysis, quality management and advanced financial management systemic processes. In the business of managed care, a master’s in health care administration will move you into a rapidly growing job segment in a rapidly changing field.

Health care (or healthcare) management has evolved as a distinct profession with the advent of managed health care. Twenty five years ago, the only health care administrators in the field were hospital administrators and public health executives. Now there are management positions in the health care industry that are developing as the industry is evolving. As an example, there are degrees available today that specialize in the management of health care information technology. Personal health care records are subject to important privacy restrictions and are often kept in electronic form. Moreover, they are transferred with regularity as health insurance coverage increasingly dictates who and where your health care provider is going to be.

Because it is an evolving profession, many people who enter health care are doing so as a choice of career change. They are often working adults who see an opportunity in the business, or people who came into the healthcare industry at the entry-level and wish to move up. For people in this position and for college- age students who must work, online colleges provide an excellent alternative to the traditional, campus-based course of study.

For the most part, management positions are going to require at least a bachelor’s degree. There are some jobs, such as medical office management, that are open to people with an associate’s degree or who have completed an intensive course of study on the specific job function and received certification for the position. An example of these intensive, certificate-oriented programs can be found at Everest College, an institution with nine campuses and an extensive online program. They offer certification courses in medical assistant; medical administrative assistant; medical insurance billing/coding; and an associate’s degree in medical assistant as well.

Warren National University offers online degree programs in health administration at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate level. They also offer people who have a bachelor’s degree in science with mid-career courses of study to develop areas of expertise in health administration. Those three courses of continuing education include concentration in health care marketing, concentration in human resources management and a concentration in general management.

University of Phoenix Online has a thorough lineup of health administration degrees available, many of them infused with business courses. Their degree programs include:

Bachelor of Science/Health Administration

Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management

Master of Health Administration

Master of Science in Nursing – Nursing/Health Care Education

Master of Science in Nursing/Integrative Health Care

Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Business Administration/Health Care Management

Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Health Administration Doctor of Health Administration

One of these degrees is an MBA with specialization in health care management. Two are dual master’s degrees in nursing; one paired with an MBA and the other with a master’s in health administration. Those programs comprise some serious academic focus on the business side of the health care business. The combination of medical expertise and business training is going to be invaluable in the health administration field, according to projections in a U.S. Department of Labor report.

Online graduate education degrees come in all shapes and colors. It behooves the student to assess his/her own interests first; then to assess the strengths of the institutions from which one hopes to get a degree – whether it be statistical, special ed, etc.; and to look for an educational program which can best fulfill those goals. One should also check state licensing requirements (information on licensing requirements and approved teacher training institutions are available from local school systems and state departments of education).

Another consideration to keep in mind before determining which online institution to choose, of course, is the age group one wishes to teach. All public school teachers must be licensed to teach a specific age group, usually by the State Board of Education (it is not required in private schools, necessarily). Specific age groups are normally divided into preschool to early childhood grades; elementary grades; middle grades; and secondary. However, categories such as special subjects (i.e., music or reading) may determine the license category. Exceptions abound, one is quick to learn, depending on the area in which one wishes to teach, the subject matter, or the reciprocity agreements arranged between various states.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, one can be very optimistic about the opportunities for teachers. The percentage of teachers working over forty-five years of age in 2004 is slightly less than 50 percent; therefore, it is expected a large number of teachers will retire within the next ten years. Teacher shortages should grow, particularly in poor, urban schools. Also, enrollment in the next ten years is expected to rise, especially in the West. Being mobile and licensed in more than one subject will only add to one’s marketability. Be aware, too, that qualified teachers in such subjects as mathematics, science, bilingual education, and foreign languages will be especially scarce. Adequate numbers of qualified teachers in such fields as general elementary education, physical education and social studies education already exist and should be avoided. Teaching prospects will no doubt improve overall and it seems a very good time to consider the field as a sensible career choice, aside from just the fact that one might feel especially dedicated to the profession.

Interestingly, average 2004 yearly earning estimates compare favorably with other professions. The following are figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics which can be broken down by levels taught:

Kindergarten: $44,940

Elementary school: $46,350

Middle school: $47,170

Secondary school: $48,980

For whatever reason one aspires to be an educator, it seems entirely possible to attain ones goals fairly easily due to the technology we accept as commonplace and the burgeoning number of degree programs offered by online institutions. The marriage of education and technology makes perfect sense – both for your own education as well as the education you may one day offer students in your classroom.

Are you putting off a career in Criminal Justice because you think you can’t afford the education? Are you interested in a Criminal Justice education but think that you do not qualify for financial aid and scholarships? With the average college education costing between twenty and forty thousand dollars, it is no wonder that prospective Criminal Justice students are deterred from pursuing the education that they desire. If you would seriously like to pursue a Criminal Justice career but don’t think you can afford it, you may want to reconsider. According to the College Board, the scholarship pot has now grown to between sixty-eight and seventy-two million dollars.

The fact is that there are scholarships out there for a Criminal Justice degree, especially for minority populations, although to attain them takes perseverance, knowledge, and dedication. There are many resources available to students interested in scholarships for a Criminal Justice degree. Your educational institute can provide you with information about state and government resources from the United States Department of Education including the State Student Incentive Grant Program (SSIG). The primary education agencies in your area can also give you information regarding scholarships including the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program. Additionally, the AmeriCorps program provides scholarship funds in exchange for community services. These scholarship funds can be used for a Criminal Justice degree or to pay off student loans. The Internet and your local library also provide education in obtaining scholarships for a Criminal Justice degree and don’t forget the myriad of companies, church organizations, community organizations, civic groups, and labor unions that provide scholarship funds as well. A word of caution, however, about pursuing scholarships for a Criminal Justice degree online. If a scholarship matching service seems to good to be true, it probably is. Beware of services that require a deposit or fee in exchange for scholarships matches that take your money but don’t return any results.

Your chances of finding a scholarship for a Criminal Justice degree are greatly improved by following certain steps recommended by educators and counselors. High school students pursuing a scholarship for a Criminal Justice degree should spend their Senior year applying for scholarships and not searching for them. Scholarships funds can be awarded as early as eighth grade so the earlier students begin their search, the better. Another important point to remember is that many scholarship granters for Criminal Justice degrees are more interested in humanitarian or community involvement than in academic performance, so getting involved in a common good is a great way to be ahead of the competition. Also, don not limit your scholarship searches to bottomless pits of information like the library or Internet, but instead lead your search by being specific about what arena of Criminal Justice for which you plan to use your scholarship funds. Searching on a national level can be lucrative, but don’t forget to get the word around locally through your families and friends and their places of involvement. Perhaps the best tip is to be persistent and not to get discouraged when turned down. Additionally, adhere to the basic rules of scholarship application etiquette: always type your application, don’t send any materials not specifically requested, complete the application in full, and always submit your application by the deadline indicated.

Considering a degree in Criminal Justice? You may be asking yourself, “What can I do with a Criminal Justice Degree?” The answer depends on what you, the student, finds most challenging and rewarding on the long list of possible career options that Criminal Justice graduates enjoy. While pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, colleges and universities offer several different career majors for students pursuing a career in Criminal Justice.

Careers in Criminal Justice have experienced considerable growth, especially since the introduction of science to the processing of crimes, and the recent growth in the threat of national and international terrorism. A Criminal Justice degree offers many focuses for the student and prepares students for careers in many arenas of Criminal Justice including Crime Scene Investigation, Paralegal Studies, and Legal Services and Court Processes, to name a few. Colleges and universities offer online programs at all levels, Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice, Master’s in Criminal Justice, and PhD in Criminal Justice, with courses covering topics specific to the students major.

A Criminal Justice degree opens career paths to Law Enforcement, prosecution and defense, incarceration and rehabilitation, assessment and supervision of criminals, social work and social services, Corporate Law and security, Homeland Security, investigations, court reporting, juvenile justice facilities, parole services, and Crime Scene Forensics. Below are listed several career options graduates of Criminal Justice degrees pursue:

Attorney Federal Bureau of Investigations Agent Border Patrol Agent Law Librarian Central Intelligence Agency Agent Legal Secretary Corrections Officer Paralegal Court Reporter Police Officer Crime Scene Technician Private Investigator Criminal Investigator Probation and Parole Officer Customs Agent Secret Service Agent Detective Sheriff Drug Enforcement Agent United States Marshall

The specialty careers of Criminal Justice may require specific qualifications depending on the students career choice. For example, students pursuing a career in Law Enforcement or security must be physically and emotionally fit for the sometimes physically and emotionally grueling work of policing, with some employers requiring students seeking a career in Law Enforcement to attend Police Academy. Those pursuing a career in Crime Scene Investigations must possess the ability to stay emotionally stable during crisis since the processing of crime scenes can be disturbing and graphic.

Certain careers in the Criminal Justice field require that candidates meet specific educational requirements. Some Criminal Justice careers require education on the certification level only, while other require Bachelor’s, Master’s, and even Doctorate degrees. The University of Phoenix offers a Bachelor’s of Science degree program that prepares students for careers in policing, criminal law, and corrections, including management skills. Additionally, Colorado Technical University offers online programs in Criminal Justice with majors in Crime Scene Investigation and Legal Studies and Court Processes. Students at Colorado Technical University learn how to process and preserve crime scene evidence, and prepare criminal cases for court. With so many colleges and universities answering in so many ways the question, “What can I do with a Criminal Justice Degree?”, the possibilities are endless.

With criminal justice becoming one of the fastest growing career choices and the recent threat of national and international terrorism continuing to spread, many students are choosing to pursue an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice online. Not only are more and more students choosing Associate’s degrees, but they are choosing to pursue their Criminal Justice Degrees online. With this demand, more and more colleges and universities are offering online Associate’s degree programs with majors in Criminal Justice.

Students now have the ability to obtain an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice in an online program from the comfort of their own home and according to their schedule. With the Internet being accessible to almost every student, obtaining an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice online is fast replacing Distance Learning Programs by mail in which course material is sent through the postal system. These Associate’s degrees in Criminal Justice programs online are becoming recognized as just as valid and legitimate as the traditional classroom-setting Associate’s degree programs.

An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice online offers students the opportunity to major in several different areas. For students that have obtained a prior certification in Criminal justice, the Associate’s degree online will further the students basic knowledge of the criminal justice system and the processes involved. Majors for Associate’s degrees in Criminal Justice online include Law Enforcement, Private Security, Corrections, and Business Administration in Criminal Justice Administration, to name a few. An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice online prepares students for several options in the Criminal Justice field. Graduates will be directly involved in the Criminal Justice system through careers including Law Enforcement, prosecution and defense, incarceration and rehabilitation, assessment and supervision of criminals, social work and social services, Corporate Law and security, Homeland Security, investigations, juvenile justice facilities, and parole services.

Many colleges and universities offer an Associate’s in Criminal Justice/Crime Scene Investigation degree program in which students learn to document, process, and preserve physical crime scene evidence. Some Associate’s degree of Criminal Justice programs require the Crime Scene Investigation student to earn credits in science subjects such as biology, chemistry, and forensic science. Students who wish to pursue an Associate’s degree in Crime Scene Investigation must posses the ability to remain calm and emotionally stable since the processing of crime scenes can be graphic and disturbing. Several colleges and universities offer an Associate’s degree in Private Investigation in which students are educated in the detection and investigative strategies of the field. Additionally, some also offer an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice online program where courses cover policing, criminal law, corrections, and crime and justice in the American society. These Associate’s degrees in Criminal Justice online programs also prepare students with management abilities, including courses in business management, conflict resolution, and negotiation. Several colleges and universities offer accelerated studies for Associate’s degrees in Criminal Justice online that can be completed by the working individual in just twelve to eighteen months.

Most elementary education programs have strict state certification requirements and choosing the proper program means recognizing what the individual wants from the experience.

First off, before any teacher credentialing begins, the candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. After that, it’s all about research. Individuals pursuing an elementary education degree online should conduct research into the area and subjects they wish to teach. Topping the list of items to research are the certification requirements in obtaining a teaching credential. As certification requirements vary by state, individuals should research the requirements for the state in which they wish to work. The reputation of a school also goes a long way in determining the quality of teaching positions a graduate will likely receive.

The resources a university will invest in teacher education programs and the content of the education curriculum are also important determinants in choosing the right program. Does the program stress the foundations of teaching? Does the curriculum provide classroom management skills, an overview of teaching methods as applied to elementary school children, and basic coursework in child psychology? A curriculum that fails to teach the foundation and necessary skills within an elementary school environment will doom the teacher to failure before teaching actually begins.

Most importantly, a good program will provide students with plenty of supervised classroom experience. The more practice a potential teacher receives in the classroom, the better the ability to handle students while on their own.

Decided on a locale to teach? The final step is to determine whether the program successfully prepares teachers to pass the state credentialing exams. Some schools gear their programs towards passing the state exams, while others have low pass rates. Look for schools with good passing rates (over 80%).

Teacher credentialing programs that rank favorably with the US News and World Report ranking of colleges are provided below.

University of Phoenix The University of Phoenix offers both a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Education online. The program is designed around the specific state’s certification requirements.

Do the research and make the right choices when deciding the teaching locale. Individuals will feel better knowing that they’ve selected a program that matches their anticipated teaching goals.

Business administration tops the list of ten most desirable and in-demand degrees to have. Higher starting salaries and better job advancement opportunities usually accompany an advanced degree in business administration. While traditionally the domain of young graduates, working men and women are returning to school to take advantage of the limitless opportunities afforded by accredited schools of business administration. These same men and women can best realize this potential by taking advantage of the numerous online business administration degree programs offered around the country.

Online schools of business administration are gaining competitive ground with traditional classroom programs. Company executives recognize that the online schools deliver the same educational objectives as classroom courses, while also preserving the integrity of the work force. In fact, companies proactively send employees back to the classroom and are rewarded with the return of a more educated, resourceful, and efficient employee base.

Working men and women aren’t limited to attending a school in a local or regional area. Online schools of business administration offer a limitless variety of opportunities and options all within the confines of the home, simply by connecting a computer or laptop to the Internet. While the options and pricing varies, many schools offer competitive programs at reasonable rates, a considerable value in realizing career ambitions.

Below are but two of the many options available for online business administration programs offered around the nation:

University of Phoenix Online

The University of Phoenix Online is a leader in online education. Students receive practical classroom experience delivered by experienced faculty.

Capella University – School of Business and Technology

Capella University offers concentrations in business organizational management, information technology, and human resource management in addition to standard coursework in business administration.

In an increasingly challenging business world, pursuing an online business administration degree makes financial sense, leading to greater value in the company and the business world at large.

People with associate’s degrees in criminal justice will find that the education helps them in a number of entry or lower level positions in the field. Law enforcement officers have not traditionally been required to have college-level education in order to apply. That seems to be changing slowly. While civil service exams are still involved, police and sheriff’s deputy applicants in some departments may need an associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field. Entry level correctional officers may encounter the same requirement, depending on the jurisdiction. A recent internet job posting for a Wisconsin correctional officer (prison guard) required an associate’s degree in criminal justice.

A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice will open the door to a variety of opportunities in the field. Another recent job posting from Virginia was for the director of an inter-agency gang task force. The job description included knowledge of regional gang activities and interdiction efforts, the ability to respond to night and weekend incidents. In addition, the applicant was charged with multi-agency coordination – not always an easy task among law enforcement organizations. At the same time, the applicant had to be capable of community outreach, grant writing and funding solicitation from legislative bodies. That’s a complex set of responsibilities: the educational requirement was a bachelor’s in criminal justice.

Positions within police departments can require criminal justice degrees. Specialized inspectors such as the “Criminalistics Supervisor,” a position recently posted by the Lakewood Colorado Police Department, require a bachelor’s. This particular position is overseeing a team of forensics technicians to assemble as complete a position as possible from a crime scene. As law enforcement becomes specialized and more technology is employed, higher levels of education become the standard.

There are a number of federal inspector’s jobs that require master’s degrees. Federal civil service rankings often have college level education requirements that can serve as substitutes for service in the next lower civil service rank. What is surprising is the number of agencies that have need for people with criminal justice educations. The Small Business Administration, The Drug Enforcement Administration, various branches of the Department of Justice have divisions that require oversight – these are a few of the listings you’ll find in federal job postings. Nearly every cabinet level department has an enforcement division, and people with graduate degrees in criminal justice will fit into many of them.

State departments of fish and game have enforcement divisions, as do environmental agencies. Graduate students in criminal justice have studied the psychology of enforcement practices in large social settings. Some of those principles are applicable for crime categories such as violations on federal wildlife preserves or illegal dumping of pollutants. White collar violations require investigations, by investigative bureaus which require oversight. It is in that sort of niche that a Master of Science/Criminal Justice Administration would fit admirably.

You don’t have to dig too deeply into the internet search engines to find a remarkable number of career choices open to people with criminal justice degrees, of any level. It’s just a matter of patience, coupled with a little perseverance.

An accelerated degree is generally meant to define the step from an associate’s degree to a bachelor’s. Many of the accredited online universities provide accelerated criminal justice degree programs that will jump you from an associate’s degree to the bachelor’s in twelve months. The usual time frame is two years. These programs are based on the assumption that you have met certain core requirements during your earlier studies and are free to focus on the criminal justice element of the degree.

Kaplan University is one of those schools with an accelerated online degree in criminal justice. Kaplan has a network of seventy campuses nationwide, as well as the online program so there are also opportunities to take onsite classes for this program as well, depending on your location. Kaplan’s bachelor’s program for criminal justice includes several specialized areas of focus. You can achieve an accelerated bachelor’s in criminal justice and opt for one of these areas of specialization: corrections; crime analysis; forensics; fraud investigation and examination; law enforcement; and private security.

Warren National University offers a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice that is geared toward helping individuals in the field upgrade their professional status. They have a status evaluator on their website that will automatically tabulate how many credits you have earned toward their criminal justice degree and how quickly you will be able to complete your bachelor’s.

In order to accelerate the graduation process they can provide an instant analysis of the holes in your academic record and determine the most efficient method of completing the requirements. One other interesting feature at Warren National University is their e-global library, which is an online resource for the areas of study they provide.

University of Phoenix Online has a bachelor’s degree available in criminal justice. They will accept credits from prior accredited institutions, provided they are applicable to the course of study. Students can complete the entire bachelor’s criminal justice program at Phoenix in two to three years, an accelerated pace compared to the traditional four year university. Phoenix accomplishes this by teaching one class at a time at an accelerated rate, allowing a student to complete more credits over a year than in a traditional academic environment. Of course, ambitious students can take on more than one course at a time.

American Intercontinental University has an online program for an accelerated criminal justice degree that can be completed quickly. This projection is based on the assumption that the student has completed an associate’s degree on entering the program or met equivalency requirements. Equivalency for an associate’s program means 48 credits in general education courses and 42 credits in electives.

Accelerated degrees are achievable more readily online and through continuing education programs because many of those programs are geared to the working adult who either wants to advance in his or her chosen field or who wants to alter courses and break into a new profession. The accelerated course in criminal justice is designed to help a beat cop become a lieutenant or an investigator become an administrator. Leadership requirements in the law enforcement field are in line with other professions these days: they require advanced education.

It has five areas of study, one of which is criminal justice. The ITT Tech facility in Indianapolis has an online education program that provides associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice. They also have a bachelor’s degree available in criminal justice that specializes in cyber security.

The full title for the associate’s degree is Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice. The curriculum includes introductory courses for the criminal justice system and skills required for the various professional positions within it. Courses cover law enforcement, corrections and the criminal courts.

The associate program covers the criminal legal system and its standards in detail. Focus on law enforcement is substantial as well. Graduates of this program will have the technical skills to enter into employment in a number of positions within the system. This course should meet or exceed the entry level educational requirements of virtually any police department in the country.

ITT’s bachelor’s program in criminal justice builds on the educational base developed for the associate’s program. Extended study of law enforcement includes the tools of the trade such as forensics, technological development of evidence, investigative techniques and the body of law on evidence. Course work on the criminal justice system includes the development of juvenile justice programs as well as correctional and rehabilitation models

The bachelor’s program gets into the study of criminology, the research and analytical side of criminal justice. Use of computer programs to capture, manipulate and analyze date is one topic of study. That course will focus as well on using statistical data to make decisions on what the data shows and what changes might be made as a result of the conclusions drawn. Criminology takes the wealth of data on crime incidents and criminal profiles and applies the knowledge gleaned from it to proposals for improvements in law enforcement.

The third criminal justice degree available from ITT Tech is the bachelor’s in criminal justice – cyber security. This program of study will also provide a solid foundation in the criminal justice system. The workings of the courts systems, both juvenile and adult, will be covered as well as corrections theory and practice. Law enforcement and investigative practices are part of the program along with the law as it applies to law enforcement activities.

The “cyber” portion of the program includes, among many other things: operating system security, trust management, security auditing and intrusion detections. The technology component is covered in depth, with the study of firewalls, virtual local area networks, virtual private networks and backup and disaster security measures. Identification and authorization techniques, smart cards and risk mitigation continue the technical portion of the program.

The program goes beyond cyber-crime to study the role of technology in criminal justice as well as communication and the mechanisms of social control – other elements that extend this degree into the field of criminology and round out the field of study.

An associate’s degree in criminal justice will provide entry for you into the low to mid-level employment opportunities in the field. This level of study should qualify you for work as a paralegal, for certain jobs in corrections, security and some courtroom functions. An associate’s degree is also a solid foundation should you choose to move up the ladder at a later point, into a professional position that requires education beyond a two-year degree.

Paralegals generally function as support troops for attorneys. As the profession has grown, so has the depth of responsibility that attorneys can, and do delegate to their paralegals. This will certainly include legal research and may include writing briefs based on the research. They identify appropriate laws, previous judicial rulings and legal articles that may apply to the case. They may also draft pleadings and motions to be filed with the court.

In the corporate world, paralegals assist with employee contracts, stock option and employee benefit plans. They also assist in the preparation of financial reports and make sure they are filed properly. A paralegal may oversee government regulations as they pertaining to the corporate business and monitor for regulatory and legal changes.

You can obtain an associate’s degree in criminal justice with specialization in court activities. The job of a court clerk is to keep the courtroom’s daily activities flowing. A court clerk will call cases off the docket and have the case file ready to hand to the judge. Upon completion of the court’s actions regarding that case, the court clerk will take the file back and see to it that the judge’s actions are carried out.

Often, this will mean a document or set of documents sent to other arms of the court system relaying the judge’s directives on the case. The court clerk tracks appearances and non- appearances, and generally keeps the paper flow and case work moving in the court to which he or she is assigned.

Some county court systems have a corps of bailiffs that is separate from the county sheriff’s office. An associate’s degree many qualify you for the position of court bailiff. These individuals provide security in the courtroom while court is in session. Often, they escort detainees from their cells to their court appearances. They may find themselves searching the hallways for an attorney regarding a case before the court. The bailiff acts as an assistant to the judge in many ways, just as the court clerk does. A bailiff, however, is a uniformed security officer who maintains order among defendants and all other courtroom occupants.

Security and corrections opportunities might include prison guard or counselor. Private security opportunities might include lower level supervisory roles for security firms or in corporate security departments. Some police departments might find an associate’s degree sufficient for an application as police officer. There are a large number of job opportunities in the criminal justice system that are available to persons holding AA degrees and many of them are interesting – particularly in the paralegal field.

Criminal justice degrees are available through traditional universities and online. The online courses tend to offer fewer course options to meet a given requirement. Of course, there is also no campus to attend four or five days a week and no set class hours. Online college programs tend toward efficient design, providing an accredited degree with a thorough knowledge of the subject matter in as short a period as practicable. To get an idea of the range of topics covered in a criminal justice major, this article will outline the course lineup for a four-year university and an online college. Each course of study results in a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

The brick-and-clock tower university has general education, or “core requirements” that, on completion, will constitute the foundation for a fairly comprehensive liberal arts degree. There are natural sciences and a literature or fine arts requirement, American history and one of three computer classes, math, statistics, public speaking, and writing classes. There are four behavioral sciences requirements, including economics and three public affairs courses such as Law and Public Policy.

The criminal justice courses cover the criminal justice system and the theory of criminal justice policy. Crime and public policy is a course requirement as is American Law Enforcement and a course in Corrections. Also required is a course on the criminal courts and a substantive course on criminal law, along with three additional criminal justice electives.

That’s four years of college education that includes a careful inspection of criminal justice and its history from every perspective including the squad car, the bench, and the jail cell. The courses for the online degree are every bit as thorough regarding the major but provide far fewer options for the core courses.

The online course outlined here is from the University of Phoenix Online and is designed for professionals already working in the field or a related field and who wish to further their opportunities. The three baseline courses on the roster are Skills for Professional Development, Contemporary Issues in Law Enforcement and Organized Crime.

From there, the curriculum moves into all of the components of the criminal justice system. There are courses in: Juvenile Justice. Policing. Criminal Procedure. Criminology. Interpersonal Communications. Court System. Corrections.

In the area of the social aspects and research, course requirements include cultural diversity in the field, ethics in criminal justice, managing criminal justice personnel and overall criminal justice administration. There are perhaps six other courses in the curriculum, all of which hone in on singular aspects of the subject.

It is fair to say that the orientation of the online course is more enforcement related than that of the university course requirements. However as University of Phoenix says in its program introduction, the criminal justice degree that they present is a means to an end. It is also a degree that can be awarded in less than four years. In the case of both sets of degree requirements, it is clear that a criminal justice professional must understand the rules of the environment in which he or she works and have the skills to understand and communicate with the people he or she encounters every day.

Our world is always progressing. The rate of technological advancement and the increase of human knowledge is increasing exponentially. Society is becoming more and more competitive as the population expands. Many people at the beginning of their careers find that a bachelor’s degree is losing its value in the employment market.

It is virtually impossible to acquire a position that is beyond entry level or low level administrative jobs if you do not have at least a bachelor’s degree. The level that individuals with four year degrees can rise to is not as high as it used to be.

Advanced degrees are becoming more common in the job market, which raises the level of competition job seekers now face. Larger companies, along with some medium sized companies are setting higher degrees as the standard requirement for any position above middle management. A higher degree in the business field will most likely be an MBA. Advanced engineering degrees get a lot of attention in the technical industry. Even in this field, an engineer might not be eligible for a management position in a research lab without a business degree.

If you are seeking an advanced degree, there are now more options to choose from as far obtaining one. Many colleges now offer evening courses, and some forty percent of colleges and universities in the United States provide distance learning options. There are a number of graduate level opportunities available through accredited online educational institutions. These programs are designed for individuals who are already working and ready to climb the professional ladder.

It used to be that college was a traditional four years after high school. Many students are beginning at community colleges to cut the cost of general education courses, and then transferring to four year colleges. The expense of post-secondary education has become so high that many students begin jobs while attending school part time.

Some people with some college credits pursue advanced degrees by first finding out what classes are required to find a way to use the college experience that they do have. Then they apply their college credits towards what they need to acquire and advanced degree.

Sometimes evening course selections are limited, but that is not to say the the classes required to complete an advanced degree program are not available. Online courses offer a great deal of flexibility, making it possible for working mothers to find the time to pursue a degree. One example of a flexible online college is the University of Phoenix Online, and there are others. Phoenix Online provides thirty-five advanced degrees. Some of the programs offered include education, health care, technology and business. Higher degrees are becoming more common, but there are many opportunities for you to keep up with the times.

An associate’s degree is a worthy investment for individuals who are interested in embarking on a paralegal career. This is true even though there are certificate programs available that do not result in a degree in paralegal studies. An associate’s degree in paralegal studies can be obtained online in less than two years, and would offer a stronger foundation our understanding in the field than a certificate program would. In addition to that, these college credits might be applied towards a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or another major.

Kaplan University has an Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies course of study with the following core classes: Academic Strategies for the Paralegal, Professional College Composition, Software Applications, College Composition Communications, College Algebra (or higher), Legal Ethics, Diversity and Culture History, and Career Development Strategies.

After completing those courses, the next batch of classes would probably be: Paralegalism Today, Civil Litigation I: Contracts, Civil Litigation II: Legal Research, Paralegal Elective, Paralegal Elective Associate’s Capstone in Paralegal Studies.

The curriculum at Kaplan University covers certain general education requirements that could be applied to any liberal arts education. Along with general and specific law courses, there are classes that help to improve writing skills and offer technical background in related software. As a new paralegal, having an associate’s degree can boost your confidence because of the professional knowledge that you will have attained. You will feel like a graduate, not someone who was simply trained for a job.

There is also an associate’s paralegal studies degree offered by Everest College online and on each of their nine campuses. Florida Metropolitan University has a paralegal studies program that results in an associate’s degree as well. You can search local community colleges and universities about online classes or extension programs. Almost fifty percent of all colleges and universities offer such programs.

Even if you are going to take live classes, much of the interaction between students and professors occurs on the internet. Faculty may post lecture notes and class assignments online. Some community colleges require that yo physically attend classes, but you might be able to find the information you need online.

An associate’s degree obtained on the internet is a better foundation than a simple certificate, and opens up the opportunity for further education down the road. You can begin as a paralegal, attain your associates degree, and later pursue a higher degree after you have gained experience. Bachelor’s degrees in paralegal studies can be acquired on the internet as well.

A paralegal is another name for a legal assistant. The National Association of Legal Assistants recorded more than six hundred education and training programs in the United States. There is a variety of courses available in a number of colleges and universities. Paralegal studies can be completed at community colleges, four-year colleges or by using online institutions. Programs can take as little as six months to more than five years if you are pursuing a master’s degree.

A Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) is normally the goal of a many of these training programs. Such educational programs would qualify students for an entry level positions in a law facility such as a file clerk or legal secretary.

There are associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees available under paralegal studies. Many more colleges, universities, and online institutions offer paralegal bachelor’s and associate’s degrees than master’s degree programs. A master’s degree in paralegal studies is a little more difficult to come by.

A two year degree, an associates program, in paralegal studies would probably include courses such as family law, torts, legal writing, case law research, civil rights and other legal subjects. Even though the program is only two years long, it can equip a student with a basic understanding of the business of law.

There is a more in depth experience provided in a bachelor’s degree program in paralegal studies. More liberal arts an more legal topics will be covered. The courses in a bachelor’s degree program in paralegal studies covers basic civil law in greater depth than that of an associate’s degree, and it allows for more elective classes.

Paralegals have held positions in law offices since the nineteen sixties. There are a number of responsibilities that a paralegal may be required to handle, and these might be just as many as an attorney would have to handle. The educational requirements for paralegals have grown along with the demands and complexity of the position. Many law firms will no longer accept only associate’s degrees, and only hire those with a bachelor’s degree or higher.

It is important to remember that with many online degree programs, bachelor’s degrees can be obtained in less than three years, and an associate’s degree might be obtained in less than two years. If you are interested in pursuing an education in the paralegal field, consult some of the law firms in your area about what their requirements are.

The internet is the tool used in distance education these days. It is an accessible medium for providing distance education and is always developing. Documents and graphics are now accompanied by streaming visual and audio media and are used for online education. Approximately 40% of all colleges in the United States now offer online courses or some other form of off-site programs. Professors are available via email and telephone.

You can obtain a health care degree through an online study program. For the job opportunities that require some training but not necessarily a degree, there are training certificate programs available online. Certification is available for medical assistants, nursing assistants, medical records management, radiography technicians, and more. Other certificate programs lead to positions in the assisted living and geriatric therapy fields.

A majority of health care degree programs on the internet concentrate on administrative and managerial positions in the industry. The University of Phoenix Online offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing. There is an option to pursue a master’s in nursing with a concentration in either health care education or integrative health care. There are also dual master’s degree programs that merge a health care management or health care administration degree with a nursing degree. Colorado Technical University offers a bachelor’s in nursing that includes Registered Nurse certification.

An MBA in health care administration is available at Jones International University. Classes include managing the health care professional, marketing health services, and telemedicine. Many online institutions have health care courses that relate to the business side of the industry.

The University of Phoenix also offer higher degrees. They have a PhD program for health care administration. Some of those courses include the globalization of health care, evaluation of health care programs, administration of complex health care systems, research design, and health care marketing. The curriculum is designed to assist individuals with understanding the industry and being able to evaluate where your business lies within the industry.

Training to manage public health care facilities and programs is available through distance learning as well. Online colleges provide master’s programs in public health. Some degree programs online also offer specific administrative training needed for public health jobs. A majority of the work under this specialization is in clinics and hospitals. It is a crucial field, since it is difficult for some to pay for medical treatment, and public health facilities won’t reject a patient for financial reasons.

Some aspects of health care management overlap with health care administration, and the terms are often used synonymously. Health care administration involves more direct daily management in health care facilities, such as a head nurse who is responsible for scheduling nurses on a certain floor of the hospital. Health care management would refer to an individual who is in charge of directing an entire health care facility.

Health care management and health care administration have only subtle differences, and not every master’s or doctorate program will label the course of study in the same fashion. Sometimes health administration will involve policy making decisions, and sometimes health care management will involve that.

There is an MBA offered at the University of Phoenix Online that specializes in health care management. This course of study prepares students for administrative decisions related to health care finance, database management, health care infrastructure, and health care organization maintenance.

At American InterContinental University, there is an MBA offering that has a health care management focus. There is also a similar program of the same name at Jones International University. They offer accelerated programs with classes lasting eight weeks. At Colorado Technical University, there is a bachelor’s program in health care management.

There are other schools that offer certificate programs and degrees in health care management information. There are increasing numbers of electronic files that need to be protected due to person health information of patients, and that is why such a degree program is needed.

Still a number of master’s programs in health care management are geared towards public health. Online courses may lead to A Master’s in Public Health/Community Health, or an MBA in Health Services. With one of these degrees, an individual might work at the city, country or state level Department of Health. Such individuals might be involved in health care policy-making. There are also PhD programs available is such a field.

Communications, information technology, and finance are all a part of the health care industry. Many of these related issues are covered in a course of study towards a master’s degree in health care management or health care administration. The goal of the positions attained as a result of one of these degrees is to maintain healthy organizations.
