Early childhood education is generally defined as educational programs for children from infancy through the age of eight. As a practical matter, the term is often assumed to refer to activities for pre-school children, from birth through kindergarten. While education professionals often assume the former, the general public may think that the term is basically referring to pre- schoolers. The result is occasional confusion.

Early childhood education jobs of all types require certification just as is the case for teachers at all other levels. There are several levels of certification available for those who wish to work in this field: teacher, teacher’s aide, day-care worker and others, depending upon the state in which you wish to qualify. In most states, to work as a teacher you will need a minimum of a bachelor’s degree plus course work in a training program for early childhood education. Often these credentials require course work focusing on a particular area, such as special needs children, pre-school or day care age group, and school-age children.

The online resources for early childhood education range from certification courses all the way through the range of higher education degrees. University of Phoenix Online offers a bachelor’s degree in education with a specialization in elementary education. They also have a master’s in education with a focus on early childhood education. University of Phoenix Online has an extensive list of continuing education classes for teachers, some of which are no doubt applicable to the requirements for an ECE certificate.

Ashford University offers a bachelor’s degree in organizational management with a specialty in child study. This degree would be an excellent foundation for a professional position that focuses on early childhood education. Course work includes, among others, cognitive development, family studies, childhood development and group behavior.

Associate’s degrees in early childhood education are available online. Bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate programs in education are also found online and some of them offer specialization in early childhood education. This area of focus differs from standard teaching programs in that it concentrates heavily on the psychology of dealing with young children. Group dynamics, child behavior and misbehavior, the use of objects such as puppets for educational purposes – this sort of study is the root of early childhood education. Mathematics, science and English sometimes take a back seat to the classroom psychology issues that are critical to understanding children new to the environment.

Pre-school certification is another area of study that is available through the Internet. This area of early childhood education is as heavily monitored by most states as are the schools in general. Pre-school operators must meet standards for their facility and their employees must meet educational standards just as teachers in the school system. Pre-school early childhood education is a profession that works well with online study, except for any student teacher requirements that may exist. Often an online college will have made student teacher arrangements in some of the geographical areas where they are accredited.

Online early childhood education study requires some study on your part. Determine what area(s) you may wish to work in and explore the certification requirements in your state. Then turn to the internet for your degree.

There is a plethora of directions that you choose from with a degree in education. You can become a teacher or an education professional working elsewhere in the higher ranks of the school system. With a doctorate degree in education, you can teach education on the college level, or you can conduct research on education theory and the evolution of education.

There are a number of continuing education courses available for teachers, and it is actually required in many states, that teachers take classes. Overall, there are associate’s bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in education available both on campuses and online.

There is a vast range of options in the focus of study within the education field. You may decide on a concentration in early elementary education, middle school education, school social work, special education, or family and consumer sciences education. A graduate’s course of study may shift focus to specialties such as instructional systems design, school psychology, interdisciplinary early childhood education and communication disorders. There are far more choices than these. In fact, ne university has twenty-five different undergraduate options in the education major.

Getting an online degree in education might be the best choice for an individual who is unsure about what path in the education field to take. It is a good idea to find out your state’s teacher certification requirements if you are interested in teaching. If you think that you may be interested in administration, find out what classes are required to complete your degree with that in mind. Knowing this basic information will help you to choose courses that will move you towards your goal at your own pace.

If you are not interested in becoming a teacher, but you do want to have a career in educational leadership, you should know that the course of study is different from that of a route to teaching. Educational leadership classes will cover topics such as instructional supervision; school, family and community relations, and education governance and politics. Administrative roles may include curriculum development.

A degree that is geared for teaching on the high school will most likely have a subject focus, such as math, science, English or ESL, social studies, etc. Aspiring elementary school teachers will study oral and written communication as well as how to deal with cross-cultural issues in the classroom.

Even at the graduate level, there is an abundance of choice in the education industry.

Budding adults who begin college in order to become teachers almost always major in education. A bachelor’s degree in education is fashioned to prepare individuals for teaching careers. Students must pass state exams in addition to earning a bachelor’s degree in most states. A majority of colleges and universities offer classes that provide the preparation for additional state certification requirements.

Since there is a teacher shortage across the country, a many states have created alternative requirements for individuals who would like to become teachers. Typically, this allows individuals with a bachelor’s degree in something other than education to take courses for the teaching credential. These individuals would not need to start at the beginning of the program in order to become a teacher.

Even though there is an alternate option, a bachelor’s degree in education will provide a solid underpinning that prepares students for the classroom. Bachelor’s degree programs that are designed to lead to certification may focus on early childhood education, elementary education, or special-education. There are minimal credential requirements associated with such programs that students must meet in order to become teachers.

There is a slightly different course of study for those who wish to teach on the secondary, high school, level. The area of focus would not be “secondary education” but simply the subject matter that they desire to teach. The area of focus might be English education, mathematics, science, or social science. Some of these programs are not geared for complete teacher certification, and other credentials are required post-graduation. Depending on the state, a master’s degree may be required to teach at the high school level.

Usually in states where a master’s degree is required for teaching on the secondary level, a bachelor’s degree is needed for teaching on the elementary level. This is why many teachers continue to pursue further education. These individuals start where they can, and attend school while working to move up to the teaching level that they want to be at. Sometimes they will take non-classroom roles like counseling.

A bachelor’s degree in education may include the following classes: introduction to teaching, teaching reading, teaching social studies, teaching science; teaching mathematics, and methods of foreign language instruction. It is more likely now that before that teachers will encounter bilingual and multicultural education.

If you desire to learn how to teach, get a bachelor’s degree in education. You will learn the art of imparting knowledge, not just providing knowledge.

Throughout history, teachers in public schools had to get a degree in teaching, pass a teacher education program, and be certified by the state. Today, a bachelor’s degree in education can take five years, and will include the training needed for certification.

Alternative route programs have been created due to the growing need for qualified public school teachers. Part of the reason why some people are not interested in the field is because of the comparably low salaries that some schools offer. There are many school districts that are attempting to raise salary offerings. The changes in the certification process has made it easier for individuals with degrees in other fields to take positions as public school teachers.

A degree in teaching can be obtained at a traditional university or through an online educational institution. The online option would benefit individuals who are already working full time and want to make a career shift into teaching. This is also an inviting option for those who have some general college credits that can be counted towards a teaching degree. In general, teaching degree programs offered on the internet will take less time to earn than those offered at traditional universities.

There aren’t any states that higher public school teachers full time without a bachelor’s degree. Some states require a master’s degree to teach on the high school level. There are different educational requirements for elementary grades, middle school and high school.

A majority of the programs in teaching that are offered online are master’s degree programs, and prepare students for licensing exams. The University of Phoenix Online does have a bachelor’s program in elementary education, but they have four programs that offer master’s degrees in education. These include: early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, special education, and ESL. They also offer doctorate programs in education, which focus on leadership in education, curriculum and instruction. The PhD programs are geared towards administrators.

Many states are using alternative route programs for individuals who already have bachelor’s degrees and want to teach. A good number of these programs focus on math and science, since there is such a lack of teachers in those subjects in some areas. Capella University has such programs that can help individuals get the education they need to meet teaching requirements. It is much easier to get a degree in teaching than it was a decade ago.

Public school teachers in our nation go through a state regulated process for the teaching credential required to teach in schools. Typically, a bachelor’s or master’s degree with major or minor in education is required. High school teachers usually need to major in the subject that they would like to teach, and this sometimes calls for a master’s degree. Teacher certification normally requires that these kinds of educational requirements be met, and that the individual pass an exam.

A majority of colleges offer undergraduate majors, tailored for earning a teaching credential, that take four to five years to complete. Bachelor’s degrees in education focus almost solely on teaching. In such a curriculum, you will encounter subjects like child development, classroom management, teaching fundamentals, and similar topics. Major requirements may include multiple subjects such as social studies, math, reading, and all of the main subjects regularly taught in grades K-6.

Bachelor’s degrees in education are available at certain online educational institutions. Many times these degree programs can be completed within two or three years. Often, college credits that were obtained prior to online enrollment are transferable. In most cases, it seems, online schools tend to offer more master’s programs than bachelor’s degrees in education. A number of master’s programs in education are geared towards people looking to work on the business side of education, or for teachers interesting in moving to an administrative position.

The University of Phoenix Online provides a master’s degree in education with concentrations in elementary education, early childhood education, secondary education, and special education. This university’s programs are fashioned to prepare students for those different teaching environments.

For secondary level teachers, the master’s degree programs focus on individual major subjects like English and language arts, social science and history, science, math, and others. Creating a productive learning environment and adolescent development will also be included in such a degree program. The programs at the University of Phoenix target secondary teaching opportunities.

Jones International University offers a master’s in adult education and administration as well as a higher education leadership and administration degree. These opportunities are for those who want to progress in educational hierarchy.

State teaching certification requirements are transforming, which is creating a change in the focus of teaching degrees. It no longer has to take five years as an undergraduate to achieve the educational goal. Investigate the requirements in the school district that you are interested in teaching in to make sure your educational efforts will move your towards your goal.

Most state teaching requirements include both a college degree and teacher certification. Online colleges are rarely equipped with programs that fulfill various state level certification obligations. While Iowa does have some online certification classes available, this is not normally the case. Online educational degrees tend to focus on teacher training but will not provide qualification credentials.

A bachelor’s degree is typically required for teaching on the elementary school level. Quite a few online institutions provide bachelor’s degree programs for elementary education that can only two to three years. Other programs may assist in preparing individuals for certification testing, but they are not included in the college curriculum.

Online degree programs that focus on the development of teaching skills are usually master’s programs. Kaplan University offers two master’s degree programs for Kindergarten through sixth grade, and two other programs for seventh to twelfth grade. Areas of specialization offered are mathematics and literacy and language. The University of Phoenix Online offers master’s degree programs with the following focuses: special education, elementary and secondary teaching, and early childhood education. Job requirements for teaching secondary school will require college credentials in the subject area that is to be taught, such as English, Mathematics, or American history.

Capella University has programs that can assist certified teachers in meeting the requirements to be promoted into management or administrative positions in education. These master’s degree programs include master’s in science degrees with specialization in advanced classroom instruction, curriculum and instruction, and leadership in educational administration. Capella University also offers k-12 teaching and online certification courses.

Online teaching degree courses of study will sometimes have three sections of classes. These might include studies in your subject concentration, courses for licensure, and degree courses. Special education, for instance, may require an additional set of classes. The University of Phoneix has a licensure master’s program, as well as other educational focuses. The programs of study are gears towards assisting the student in obtaining credentials, but everyone has to determine what credentials are needed based on their state requirements.

A great deal of individuals who are interested in pursuing a teaching degree have some college credits already. You can find out from many online universities about being able to transfer those credits. This can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete the degree program. Whether this is done or not, a majority of online degree programs do not take the full four years that traditional college requires. Online institutions offer intensive and accelerated courses of study that speed up the process.

Individuals who begin a college level course of study with the intention of teaching at the elementary or high school level will major in education. It is rare that you will see a program labeled “teaching degree.” Education degrees tend to focus on specific levels or aspects of teaching.

Master’s and doctorate degrees are offered in education. There are program offerings available such as “Master’s in Education/Early Childhood Education.” The University of Phoenix Online offers the following degrees in education:

Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – Adult Education Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – Computer Education Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – ESL Master of Arts in Education/Early Childhood Education Master of Arts in Education/Elementary Teacher Education Master of Arts in Education/Secondary Teacher Education Master of Arts in Education/Special Education

As you may have noticed, not all of these degrees are geared for classroom instruction. Some of these degrees would put a person in an administrative or planning position in a school state board office of education.

Doctoral programs in education are also available at the University of Phoenix Online. The focuses for the two doctoral programs the school offers are educational leadership and curriculum and instruction. An individual with one of these degrees might teach on the college level or take on a leadership role in an educational district.

Capella University offers the following advanced degree programs for people already working as teachers: Leadership in Educational Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, Advanced Classroom Instruction, and Reading and Literacy. These programs are also geared for those interested in educational management or leadership positions. Capella also offers the following advanced degrees for individuals who are not certified teachers: Leadership for Higher Education, Postsecondary and Adult Education, Professional Studies in Education, Instructional Design for Online Learning, Training and Performance Improvement, and Enrollment Management.

There are advanced degree programs available at Jones International University for those who want to become teachers. There are fourteen concentrations available in the school’s master’s of education program offerings. Five of the programs are for those who would like to obtain their teacher’s license. There are also programs for those looking to play administrative roles in education.

With online colleges, and most other institutions, you are likely to obtain your master’s degree along with teacher certification.

In order to embark on a teaching career, a bachelor’s degree along with additional teacher certification is required. In order to teacher at the high school level, some schools require master’s degrees in their particular subject area, such as calculus or Spanish. In many states there has been a shortage of teachers, which has somewhat decreased certification requirements for teachers. Educational requirements have nonetheless remained the same.

Do not assume that it will take six years to acquire a master’s degree before being allowed to teach high school. There are many online institutions that have programs that expedite the process. Credits from other colleges or universities can often be transferred to count towards online degree programs.

There are a few things to consider when attempting to acquire a teaching degree on the internet. First, determine what subject area you would like to focus on, and what age group you would like to teach. It is also important to learn the state requirements for certification in the area you would like to teach. Once you have determined these things, the next step is to search online for appropriate programs.

There is a wide range of education degree programs available at the University of Phoenix Online. These include: Bachelor of Science in Education/Elementary Education Master of Arts in Education/Administration & Supervision Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – Adult Education Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – Computer Education Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum & Instruction – ESL Master of Arts in Education/Early Childhood Education Master of Arts in Education/Elementary Teacher Education Master of Arts in Education/Secondary Teacher Education Master of Arts in Education/Special Education Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership with a Specialization in Curriculum and Instruction

While this university has a number of options available, you might want to consider speaking with an advisor about your aims.

Another college with a comprehensive online program is Jones International University. This is an online of their graduate teacher programs, master’s programs, and offerings for administrators

K-12 Educators and Administrators Specializations

M.Ed. in Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment M.Ed. in Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Administration M.Ed. in K-12 e-Learning Technology and Design: Instructional Technologist

Teacher Licensure and Principal and Administrator Licensure Specializations

M.Ed. in Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Teacher Licensure M.Ed. in Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Teacher Licensure M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Administration: Principal and Administrator Licensure

Obviously, there are many more online education degree programs available beyond these two universities. Go ahead and find out the requirements in your local area, and search online for programs that cover the subject area you wish to teach. You may be able to achieve a master’s degree in much less time than you anticipate.

Education and teaching are essential components of almost every well rounded online school. Young adults who have decided to return to school often look toward teaching, often because they have impressionable children themselves ready to learn at home. As a result, distance learning has become an important resource for people who are seeking to enter the teaching profession at some level while still being able to juggle family life at home.

There are online programs for associates of education degrees in Early Childhood Education or certifications as a teachers’ aide. These secondary roles are often positions that adults, who have finished raising their children and are ready to return to the workforce, pursue. Certification for these positions is not a relatively simple task and can be done through an online program with ease.

There are also more comprehensive online degree programs for Early Childhood Education, ranging from bachelors to the doctorate-level. The same is true of the several standard teaching degrees that are available. Online schools have degree programs for a masters in teaching K-12; masters in middle level education (grades 5-8); education masters degree – science, grades K-8; and so forth. These distance learning programs are excellent providers for all of the core academic requirements to obtain a job in the classroom.

Although there are jobs available in the classroom setting, there are career opportunities in education that don’t necessarily require a teaching credential. For that reason, there are online degree programs for teaching training in education with a specialization in curriculum, administration, or adult education and instruction are the opportunities that are available through these online programs. Most online schools will provide one degree in educational leadership or educational administration, for example, and another in educational administration for licensure. While one is more general, the other will focus on both the general curriculum and meeting the requirements for licensure.
