In reality, there is no black and white instruction manual for creating a successful business empire. However, many aspiring entrepreneurs are heading back to the classroom for one of these 5 business degrees to develop their business sense and to increase their chances of success.

1. Bachelor Degree in Management with an E-Business Emphasis

The business management degree in E-Business equips students with an understanding of the global electronic market. Specific skills sets acquired at the completion of the business management degree include marketing, advertising, and information technology.

2. Bachelor Degree in Management with a Sales and Marketing Emphasis

Students learn about market research and effective sales techniques with this business management degree. Whether considering a business that offers a product or a service, sales and marketing are central to business growth.

3. Bachelor of Science in Business with a Finance Emphasis

A finance business management degree helps students learn how to properly manage cash flow in business start-ups. In addition to writing, oral communication, and other professional skills, the business management degree focuses on the development of effective financial decision making skills and an understanding of global finance.

4. Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

Students looking for a broad business management degree may be best suited for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In this business management degree, students acquire an all-encompassing skill set, including financial accounting, managerial finance, quantitative analysis, economics, marketing, and business-based research.

5. Associate Degree in Business and Management

Not all successful business owners have a bachelor business management degree on their resumes. Some professionals may simply need an educational jump-start with a two-year associate degree in business. The Associate of Applied Science in Business and Management is a streamlined business management degree that offers focused classes for business professionals.

For a complete list of campus-based and online business management degree programs, students are encouraged to visit College-Pages.com, the leading education and career resource website. Prospective students will also find links to informative articles for making education and career decisions in the field of business.

A certificate in business is an introductory program to the world of business, an educational option that can be invaluable to those of us who need a change – midstream or otherwise. It is an opening gambit for people who recognize the value of graduate work in business and who would like to open a business but have little understanding of the operational basics.

Typically, a business certificate program is a one year introduction to the principles and practices of business, although some schools offer concentrated courses that can be completed in a shorter period. Often you will find that a school will provide for areas of concentration within their certificate offerings. One institution offers a business essentials concentration, an MBA foundation, and an international business concentration.

With those options you can have your eye on entrepreneurship, an MBA, or a leg up when applying for a midlevel position with a multinational corporation. A business certificate is a solid initial step in continuing education for those wishing to crack the business world and can contribute to a resume in virtually any job search. Not much has changed since Calvin Coolidge commented that “The business of America is business.”

Courses typically will range through statistics, accounting practices, the fundamentals of economics and other business basics. But those interested will also find instruction on marketing, guidelines for handling personnel and import- export practices. Capella University offers a certificate in Professional Project Management. Boston University Metropolitan College offers certificates in Business Management, Marketing, and International Business Management. There are enough business certificate programs now available that students can browse for the areas of concentration in which they are interested.

Some programs offer just the basics. One accredited online college has a business certificate program that can be done in as little as six months, if you have the time to devote to it. Some certificate programs are designed to sharpen the skills and broaden the opportunities for people who have secured a professional position. For that reason, many of their courses are taught at night and/or online. It is important for potential students to keep in mind that distance learning opportunities are expanding rapidly. If an established campus has a program that interests the individual, a simple phone call will indicate whether that program has been made available online.

A certificate in business can lead in a number of directions but, most importantly, it will get the potential student noticed. Student can tailor the certificate classes to focus on their professional area of interest. They come in all sorts of packages as well: online, in the classroom, at night; through local institutions and virtual universities. If the desire to move forward in the business world exists, the business certificate is a great first step.

Wondering what you can do with a degree in Business Administration? The good news is that Business Administration students are some of the most in-demand graduates in the workforce. Ever since the explosion of big business in the United States, Business Administration has become the fastest growing employment demand in the workforce, with more top positions being filled by individuals who want to further their understanding of Business Administration through a college degree. The disciplines of a Business Administration degree are demanded in every industry and opportunities range from Health Care, Hospitality, General Management, Banking and Finance, Insurance, Entertainment, Retail, and Government. A degree in Business Administration offers specializations in Human Resources, Finance, Management, and Marketing. Students seeking a degree in the field have the options including Certification Programs, Bachelor’s in Business Administration, an MBA, and even Doctorate programs in Business Administration.

The Internet has dramatically changed the way that Business Administration degree programs are administered to students. Inspired by the Distance Learning Program that many colleges have adapted in which learning and examination material are sent through the mail and completed at the student’s own pace, the online degree programs in Business Administration have made it more convenient than ever to obtain an education in the industry. Several colleges offer online programs in which students can earn their Business Administration degree from the comfort of their own homes according to their own schedule, in addition to more convenient evening and weekend courses for those students who still prefer the traditional classroom setting. Many colleges and universities also offer students internships and Credit for Prior Learning programs in the Business Administration disciplines.

Each specialty of the Business Administration degree program covers its own topics and curriculum. The fundamental education of Business Administration seeks to prepare the student for the workforce by providing them with a general understanding of the main management roles found within the modern organization. Topics cover the basic principles of Business Management such as Financial Analysis, Entrepreneurship, Marketing Principles, Organizational Strategy, Ethical Issues of Business, Business Forecasting, Investments, and Mergers and Acquisitions. The continuing education of a Business Management degree seeks to build on a student’s fundamental knowledge and provide a deeper expertise, enabling graduates to direct, control, and organize the processes of a firm or organization. Many specialty courses are offered in the advanced levels of Business Administration education such as Information Technology Management, Business and Personnel Law, Theories of Constraint, Global Enterprise, and Portfolio/Investment Analysis.

Finding a career in Business Administration is almost impossible to do without a college degree, and even harder to do with no prior experience. Because these demands of a career in Business Administration are ever-changing and rapidly advancing, some students find it beneficial to their careers to take on internships or part-time positions in the Business Administration field while pursuing their education. Also for this reason, those continuing their education from a certification to a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or from a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration to an MBA, many elect to take a few years in between to work in the field and acquire hands-on experience.

Upon researching your education options, you will find many schools offering degree programs in the Business Administration field. Among them are the University of Phoenix and Colorado Technical University, both offering online degree programs. Kennedy-Western University offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate programs as well. These are just a few of the many options when pursuing a Business Administration degree.

Since the creation of formal business education, colleges of Business Administration began appearing with specialized trainings and certifications. With big business becoming so prevalent in the United States and formal business education being established, colleges of Business Administration are now offering more advanced degree and certification programs in the educational forum. These more advanced degrees offered by colleges of Business Administration can be focused on Management, Accounting, and Marketing, Employee Relations, and Information Technology.

Today there are several options when choosing a college of Business Administration. Never has it been more convenient to receive a continuing education than today, with most colleges of Business Administration focusing on flexibility for the student. This flexibility is offered through the ability of the student to now obtain a degree online and more convenient evening and weekend courses for those students who wish to attend classes. Colleges of Business Administration have made education more accessible in the past by offering distance learning courses, in which materials and lessons were sent through service. However, this convenience has now been surpassed by one of the most common sources for formal education today – the Internet. These online degrees are increasingly being accepted as just as valuable as degrees provided by traditional on-campus programs offered by colleges of Business Administration. Several Colleges of Business Administration offer financial assistance and credit for prior learning.

In the college of Business Administration students may seek a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration as well as a Master’s and Doctorate degree. Colleges of Business Administration seek to prepare the individual to effectively organize companies, manage resources, oversee accounting and purchasing, analyze financials, develop critical and strategic thinking, and to manage risks and costs. Courses develop an understanding of management skills; the ability to work in a team based environment, and the comprehension and awareness of cultural issues in the business arena. Topics covered in degree programs offered by Colleges of Business Administration include Contract Procurement, IT Management, Financial Statement Analysis, Small Business Consulting, Legal Strategies, Personnel Management, Marketing Strategies, New Product Development, Business Forecasting, and Labor Economics.

Starting a new business isn’t an easy task. It takes a considerable amount of planning, marketing know how, capital, dedication. Getting through the regulatory red-tape requires perseverance, business savvy, and knowing where to look and what to do. To get a young business off the ground, consider checking out the resources available at the United States Small Business Administration.

Small businesses carry much of the employment burden without the benefits that larger corporations enjoy. They employ over half of the adult workforce in the United States. Recognizing the important contributions of small businesses, Congress established the US Small Business Administration in 1953 to give small businesses visibility in the marketplace and to promote fair and equitable competition in the business world. Today, the US Small Business Administration is an independent federal agency dedicated to addressing small business concerns, offering forms and publications, advice, and tips to help individuals contemplating starting up their own businesses succeed and grow.

As part of its goal to educate small business owners about the art of running a business, the US Small Business Administration maintains a training network through its Office of Entrepreneurial Development. Free online courses are offered in the following subjects:

Starting a business Managing a business Business planning tools Contracting with governmental agencies Risk management and security E-Commerce Financial management Training in understanding tax laws and regulations Marketing tools International trade topics

Among its more popular course offerings is the online class in Entrepreneurship: Starting and Managing Your Own Business.

The US Small Business Administration also sponsors national training events. These training events are taught by business professionals and offer young start-ups tips on such subjects as the following:

Devising the business plan Enacting e-commerce Driving sales through effective marketing Caring and growing a business Tax planning workshops Negotiation strategies

Information and registration at these training events are accessible through the US Small Business Administration’s training website.

Part of running a successful business requires an awareness of the regulations and policies affecting businesses. The US Small Business Administration provides business owners with regular postings of regulatory alerts, press releases, economic profiles, and new reports issued by Congress. Businesses can use the online law library to access forms, records, procedures, reports, and studies covering various aspects of small business administration.

If business owners aren’t clear about the applicability of specific rules and regulations as it relates to their business, they are free to step into a SBA field office to seek assistance from other local resources and counseling in the community. Each SBA field office features a program that offers information about starting businesses through the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) or the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Information about disaster assistance, loans and financing a small business are also available at each field office.

Starting a business doesn’t have to be a lonely endeavor. Take advantage of the resources the US Small Business Administration has to offer, and take the start-up to the next level!

As long as businesses exist, there will always be a need for information technology services. After all, businesses need to meet the bottom line, exceed Wall Street earnings expectations, and maintain accountability to stock holders. What better way to do that than to integrate information technology into standard practices to improve and streamline businesses processes?

Recent years have seen a downward trend in the career opportunities and jobs available for individuals experienced in information technology services. Increased outsourcing of information technology services and jobs overseas has discouraged students from entering into the computer sciences field. Students who have graduated with computer science degrees find well-paying jobs, only to be rewarded with a pink slip a few years later. However, new technologies and services demand a level of knowledge that can’t be met through outsourcing.

Certain fields within information technology services remain hot ticket commodities in the U.S. job market. These jobs concentrate in providing businesses with the necessary support infrastructures to successfully manipulate the new technology, checks to make sure compliance with existing policies and governmental regulations are met, and general data maintenance. Information technology service positions that will see continued growth are discussed below.

The demand for Information Technology Auditors is on the rise. The Enron, WorldCom, and Tyco have solidified the need for experts knowledgeable in the language of technology and laws such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. Information technology auditors enforce corporate compliance with such laws by evaluating existing systems and recommend technology upgrades that will help a company meet compliance.

Most companies need to maintain departments dedicated to technology support in order to resolve issues that may arise while doing day-to-day business. This falls under the domain of the Business Systems Analyst. Business Systems Analysts remain one of the fastest growing occupations according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook. Business systems analysts are concerned with supporting an organization’s information technology needs by streamlining business tasks and providing network support services to make sure companies are operational 24/7.

Computer scientists and database administrators also enjoy continued growth in the U.S. business market. Computer scientists find ways to maximize the use of technology in order to increase the efficiency of business processes. Database administrators manage information and data. Database administrators find efficient methods of organizing and storing for organizations. Data is the backbone of organizations, and businesses will always need efficient ways of dealing with large quantities of data as part of meeting the bottom line.

Most information technology service positions require formal education and on-the-job training. While an Associate’s Degree may be suitable for entry-level positions in support and basic applications development, most companies will look towards individuals with a Bachelor’s to Doctoral degree for the more prestigious positions. Most will also require certification within the field of specialty.

While information technology services will always face the up-and-down rollercoaster of the technology world, remember that businesses will always need basic information technology infrastructure in order to meet the bottom line.

As an educational term, business administration has come to encompass an extraordinary number of academic study areas. As business has become more complex, so too has the oversight of companies: their management, their growth strategies, their personnel issues, their taxes and the role that taxes play in corporate economic strategy. Advertising has grown to include multiple media outlets and an assortment of targeted interest groups: new customers, repeat customers, stockholders, investors and new geographic markets. Marketing has become the term of choice for all of this strategically placed product exposure.

Defining business administration then means defining oversight roles for the assortment of internal specialties that every business of any size has come to include. That is why business administration degrees are now offered with a remarkable number of categorical specialties available as choices of study. Perhaps the best way to define business administration is to look at the types of courses offered in MBA curriculums and the specialties, or “majors,” that one can opt for in an MBA program.

For a large corporation, business administration is going to include international and global business, as well as strategy and economics. In this instance, the definition of business administration will include requirements of certain cultural differences and an acute understanding of the global economy and its current fluidity. Also included in business administration at this scale is the art and science of acquisition: when to buy a company or property and why.

Business administration will always include the intangible quality of leadership; you can obtain an MBA that specializes in just that. Along with leadership comes the task of negotiation and conflict resolution, specifically with regard to personnel. Behavioral psychology plays an important role in business administration: a misstep in an adversarial situation with a union can take a company under, as it did Continental Airlines some years ago.

The definition of business administration will have to include marketing; you won’t have a business to administer unless you sell your products. Ancillary to marketing is an understanding of the new tools available for product distribution, and that will involve understanding e-business and how it is rapidly evolving.

Whether you are working with distributors that are small businesses or you are starting your own business, business administration includes an understanding of entrepreneurship: tax structures for small businesses along with personnel issues at that level, inventory and cash flow, and all the other small matters that make a big difference to a new or small business.

A critical part of business administration is the awareness of risk. This might include the risk of launching a new product, and the costs involved; the risk of an acquisition, the risk of a competitive strategy, the company’s exposure in opting for this health plan instead of that one. There are risks involved in other personnel decisions and this area is of tangible importance: company morale is a key to productivity and the resultant profitability.

There are MBA courses taught in all of these areas, and MBA degrees that specialize in many of them. The definition of business administration includes whatever knowledge is required to make all of these components work productively, if not in complete harmony.

Since the Internet has become an educational institution, one of the most popular programs in the field is the master’s in business administration. There are a number of reasons for this and, correspondingly, there are a number of educational facilities offering the degree online.

What once were known as “correspondence courses” have become the curriculum for “distance learning,” delivered yesterday via the United States Postal Service and today over the internet. Online education has become a mainstream choice for both computer owners and traditional educational institutions. You can take individual courses, or a concentrated curriculum and receive a certificate recognizing completion of a course of study. Every traditional college degree from Associate to Doctorate is available through online schools.

Online education tends to be a choice of people who are beyond college age and for one reason or another, wish to further their educational achievements. The goal can be completion of a degree begun long ago or it can be adding the necessary education to advance personal options in the business world. Online students are most often seeking to provide themselves with credentials to move up within their chosen profession, or to move on to a new field of endeavor. That is why the masters program in business administration is so popular on the internet.

An online MBA is the hammer to the glass ceiling for many thousands of people who have gotten as far as they can go with a bachelor’s degree, whether it is finance-oriented or not. Today, human resources departments use scanners to sort resumes submitted for job postings. If the words “masters” and “business administration” don’t pop up, many an application for an executive position is out of contention.

This is increasingly true for mid-level professional positions, and it is also true even when the hiring process favors existing employees. Too often, the MBA is a non-negotiable requirement for a certain level of professional responsibility within a corporate structure. It doesn’t matter who you know or how well you’ve performed.

Business administration studies on the internet are perfect for the employed professional who wants to move forward. Classes and studies can be scheduled around work hours, and course loads can vary according to the student’s other responsibilities. The internet offers a wide variety of master’s programs in business administration that specialize in areas of professional expertise.

As an example, the University of Phoenix Online offers master’s degrees in business administration with special focus in these areas: marketing, accounting, global management, human resources management and public administration. Through Phoenix you can also enroll in an executive master’s of business administration program, also on the internet. Also on the internet, Jones International University has MBA programs of study that specialize in entrepreneurship, finance, health care management, information technology management and information security management. These are partial lists that provide an example of the wealth of business administration degrees that can be achieved on the internet.

Everyone fantasizes; the fantasizing is mostly about how dramatically we are going to affect the world in our lifetimes. Countless people through the ages have attempted and succeeded in making a big difference. Starting from motion pictures to being a humanitarian, from rock music to striking it rich in business there are many examples. Probably the most challenging of these is making it big in business, though it may not seem so.

Listed here are two personal favorites of the world of entrepreneurship, and facts about them that are not generally known that add to their persistent success.

Ben & Jerry: the Free Lovin’ Ice Cream Extraordinaires

Ben and Jerry was conceptualized and started by some of east coast hippies about 30 years ago, who had a great liking for ice cream. Since then Ben & Jerry have become a worldwide sensation. Their ice cream is great but, then so is Hagan Daaz and Baskin Robbins. What are their qualities that make them different?

They possess sensitivity and kindness. The company website has details of not only the products offered by them but also about world peace and conservation. Some of the flavors of ice creams are coined after environmental efforts, or are so artistic and attention-grabbing that you will pick up a pint just to find out more. The wrapping and packaging is quite interesting also. It resembles homemade crafts and full of graphics and fun facts. The icecreams are as nicely packed as their other frozen products. The extra thoughts and the efforts that are used to make and package the ice creams also their interest to affect the world in a good way is most probably the reason behind their success.

A big dream starts with a little wish in The Heart

We are all familiar with Mickey Mouse. He is the world mouse with his multi-billion dollar corporation. Mickey Mouse is an American symbol of fun and entertainment with his bright red shorts and grinning face. What was Walt Disney’s motive behind this? Walt Disney was first known as a cartoonist and only later the entrepreneur he became. The reason behind his success was the belief in himself and his ideas. He took big risks and even sold his family’s insurance policy to finance the park. He decisions were criticized but he did not give up as because he believed in the immense influence of his American dream. He remained loyal to his dreams and made them a financially rewarding reality.

Famous entrepreneurs have achieved their dreams for different reasons, but what connect them with each other is their drive and their ability to align their heart with their goals.
